  • Patent number: 6654329
Abstract: There is provided a disk drive unit which is capable of making control corresponding to contaminant and defect by discriminating the contaminant (dust, scratch) on the disk surface from the defect on the recording plane. In a pull-in signal PI corresponding to reflected light from a disk, a defect detecting signal corresponding to a signal whose level change is relatively quick corresponding to the defect of the recording plane and a contaminant detecting signal which corresponds to a signal whose level change is relatively slow corresponding to the contaminant on the disk surface are generated. When the defect detecting signal is at low level for example, a system controller retries a recording operation or increases laser light when the contaminant detecting signal is at low level. A quantity of output light of a laser diode is controlled so that a product of output light of a laser diode and reflected light from the disk amounts to a predetermined level.

  • Patent number: 5586098
Abstract: An optical disc apparatus using zone record system that successively records data in a plurality of zones without a time lag in switching zones is disclosed. A phase error signal is formed with a reproduced signal of a servo zone of an optical disc 1. A servo clock is generated by a servo PLL 8. Data PLLs 9a and 9b divide the frequency of the servo clock. The laser power of the servo zone is detected by a circuit 11a so as to perform a read ALPC operation. The record laser power is detected by a circuit 11b so as to perform a write ALPC operation. A DSP 14 compares the monitor values and a reference value and controls a bias value of the drive signal so that the detected value becomes equal to the reference value. In write mode, a laser device emits pulse laser light in response to the data clock. Since the write ALPC operation is performed for the next zone while it is performed for the present zone, one of the PLLs 9a and 9b generates data clock for the present zone.

  • Patent number: 5218491
Abstract: Disk drive apparatus for reproducing information signal from a disk on which the information signal and a servo sector pulse are recorded, which includes sampling circuit for sampling an output of a counter. A speed control signal is generated by detecting a difference between continuous sampling values, and a spindle motor is control by the speed control signal. When the rotational speed is slow, the sampling is performed by a detection output for the spindle motor, and when the rotational speed is nearly equal to a normal speed, that is performed by the sector pulse.

  • Patent number: 5144605
Abstract: The method of the present invention comprises detecting a recording pattern, which is different for each tract, in each of track groups consisting of a predetermined number N or tracks recorded in advance on an optical disk(1), generating a tracking signal S.sub.ET whose signal level changes on the positive and negative sides of a target track T.sub.0 as the center, and moving the optical spot to the target track T.sub.0 on the basis of this tracking signal S.sub.ET. In this manner, it becomes possible to prevent uncontrollable movement of the optical spot and align the optical spot to a desired recording track within a short period of time.

  • Patent number: 5063545
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting the speed with which a light beam emitted by an optical head accesses a target record track on an optical disc in which record track traverse data indicating track number are recorded previously. The traverse data is read and traverse data signals indicative of the scanning position of the light beam are produced. Deviations in the traverse data signals obtained at predetermined time intervals are detected to form upper order data bits representing access speed. At the same time, tracking error data signals proportionate to the deviation of the light beam from a record track on the disc are produced and a deviation in the tracking error data signals is detected to form the lower data bits of the access speed.
