Publication number: 20060262058Abstract: A high-contrast halftone image is achieved by combining drives based on right- and left-hand characteristics of cholesteric liquid crystals. A first process displays a binary image of white and black based on the right-hand characteristics of voltage-reflectance characteristics. This achieves good black with a low reflectance. A subsequent second process displays an image based on driving voltages in the left-hand characteristics. The voltages in the left-hand characteristics produce good halftone displays. At this time, the liquid crystal state makes a transition in the direction of reducing the reflectance from planar to focal conic alignment. This allows high-contrast halftone displays while maintaining a good black level obtained in the first process.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 28, 2005Publication date: November 23, 2006Applicant: MITSUBISHI DENKI KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Zenichiro Hara, Noritaka Egami, Masaaki Hiraki, Yuusaku Saitou

Patent number: 6290187Abstract: A band pass filter 12a for detecting a component in the vicinity of a frequency (1 kHz) having the highest propagation efficiency among oscillations generated when a train runs, a band pass filter 12c for detecting a component in the vicinity a frequency (5.5 kHz) having the lowest propagation efficiency and a microcomputer 16 are provided, the microcomputer 16 being arranged to determine a state in which the train has approached a relatively near location, a state in which the train has approached a very near location, a state in which the train has passed through and exists at a very near location or a state in which the train exists at a relatively near location. A conventional track circuit must, as a matter of course, have insulating portions for rails and incorporate a signal cable for communicating a result of the detection, causing the cost to be enlarged. The present invention is able to eliminate the foregoing necessities and reduce the cost.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1998Date of Patent: September 18, 2001Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Noritaka Egami

Patent number: 5955669Abstract: An apparatus and a method for acoustic wave measurement according to the present invention are characterized by oscillating a magnetostrictive vibrator with a frequency to emit an acoustic wave to an object to be measured, calculating the amplitude of a signal received by a wave receiver, and repeating the previous steps throughout a range of different frequencies to detect the resonance frequency. The amplitude of the received signal is calculated from values of the signal sampled at an interval of 1/4 of one cycle of the emitted frequency. This reduces the time of the measurement of a thickness a presence of flaws, a presence of impurities and minimizes noises during the measurement.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1997Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Noritaka Egami
