  • Patent number: 5269536
Abstract: A sealing device in accordance with the present invention includes a projected portion having a rubber-like elastic member on the outer periphery of a seal member, and an outer cylindrical portion extending toward the seal member on a flange portion of a sleeve member. This outer cylindrical portion covers an opening formed between the seal member and the flange portion, thereby preventing entry of dust. The outer cylindrical portion is further provided on the tip thereof with a bend portion which can be engaged with the projected portion. The projected portion, the outer cylindrical portion, and the bend portion form a small clearance which serves as a labyrinth seal. The projected portion is fixedly fitted with a protection ring for covering the opening formed between the seal member and the flange portion of the sleeve member so that the free end portion of the protection ring can be engaged with the flange.

  • Patent number: 5183271
Abstract: A sealing device dispossed between two members which are relatively rotatable, such as rotation shaft and housing of machinery, includes a first seal ring provided with a resin seal lip being disposed in an axial direction of one of the members to be sealed and having a sealing surface and a second seal ring provided with an elastic rubber seal lip disposed in an axial direction of one of the members to be sealed, the rubber seal lip being provided with a sealing surface closely contacting the sealing surface of the resin seal lip. The first and second seal rings are secured by a securing means. The securing device for securing the first and second seal rings is composed of an annular sealing recess formed on another surface of the resin seal lip opposed to the sealing surface thereof and a sealing projection formed on the sealing surface of the rubber seal lip of the second seal ring.

  • Patent number: 4995623
Abstract: A sealing device for use in contact with a reciprocating member such as a piston rod of an automotive shock absorber has a plurality of seal lips with tips which make resilient sliding contact with the surface of the reciprocating member. Chambers are formed between the tips of adjacent seal lips. The seal lip closest to an internal fluid to be sealed is designed to facilitate flow of the fluid into the chamber between this seal lip and the adjacent seal lip, across the region of contact between this seal lip and the reciprocating member. The design may include notches or grooves formed in the seal lip closest to the seal lip or specific design of tapered surfaces of this seal lip.
