  • Patent number: 6059763
Abstract: An absorbent pad for absorbing bodily fluid secreted from a user. The absorbent pad includes a base pad having first and second length sides and first and second wings. The first and second wings each extending along a respective one of the first and second length sides. The absorbent pad also includes a tampon extending substantially perpendicular to the base pad at a central portion thereof, wherein, in use, the tampon is positioned within a body opening of the user and the base pad is positioned outside the body opening and between legs of the user to absorb body fluids secreted from the body opening. The tampon may be removably connected to the base pad and a gluteal pad may be connected to extend from an end side of the base pad. The gluteal pad includes a fold positioned within the user's buttocks during use. Lateral borders may be positioned between the sides of the base pad and the wings extending therefrom for providing added absorption of secreted bodily fluids.

  • Patent number: 6000395
Abstract: An avalanche and hypothermia protective system for detecting emergency situations and instances when a user is severely compromised by adverse atmospheric and climactic extremes, e.g. entombment by an avalanche or high altitude mountaineering, and providing relief for the detected emergency situation. The system includes a sensor housing to be worn on the head of the user including sensors for sensing certain conditions and generating a signal indicative of the conditions sensed. A backpack including a microprocessor therein is connected to the sensors for analyzing the generated signal to determine if an emergency situation exists. A device for relieving the emergency condition is connected to the microprocessor for providing relief to the user upon detection of an emergency condition and to provide support for preexisting conditions such as cold induced asthma.

  • Patent number: 5984135
Abstract: A beverage container cover for preventing the introduction of any contaminants into a beverage container. The beverage container cover includes a sealing layer including a top side and a bottom side, a straw extending on either side of the sealing layer and able to prevent a contaminant from passing therethrough and an adhesive substance extending about a periphery of the bottom side of the sealing layer for forming a seal with a rim of the container. A lip extends about a periphery of the top side for engaging the rim of the container and strengthening the seal therebetween. The cover further includes a first protective layer removably connected to the top side and covering a top portion of the straw and a second protective layer removably connected to the bottom side and covering the bottom side, a bottom portion of the straw and the adhesive substance. The straw may be extended whereby it extends to a base of the container.

  • Patent number: 5971102
Abstract: A ladder including storage areas for allowing access to an area out of reach of a user. A tool box is removably connected at a top end of the ladder so as to be easily accesible to a user of the ladder. The ladder includes a first pair of legs and a second pair of legs extending at an adjustable angle to the first pair of legs. A plurality of steps extend between the legs of the first pair of legs and a storage compartments is positioned below each of the plurality of steps. The storage compartments are each movable between a first position completely contained beneath its respective step and a second position extending out from its respective step providing access to a storage area. Adjustable feet positioned on a base side of each leg of the ladder. The adjustable feet are both angularly adjustable and height adjustable to adapt the ladder to the terrain on which it is to sit. A pressure sensitive alarm is positioned to generate an audible alarm when a user applies pressure to the bottom step.
