  • Publication number: 20150192314
Abstract: The invention makes a solid block or blocks of ice, stores the ice where it is made, and when needed consumes the ice as a heat sink for cooling or refrigeration. The invention is directed at the market for reduction of peak electric loads, by making ice at night when electric rates are low and ambient temperatures cool, and using the ice for cooling during the day in periods of high temperatures and high electric rates. Ice is made/consumed by direct contact with the cooled/heated surface, giving high heat transfer rates and efficiency. The basic concept is expressed in a number of embodiments, allowing for a variety of uses in small to extremely large applications.

  • Publication number: 20070188059
Abstract: A kitchen appliance includes a door having an outer panel portion and an inner panel portion, with a plurality of mounting members being spaced about the outer panel portion of the door. A glass panel assembly, including a glass panel and a plurality of mounting elements, is detachably mounted to the door through the interengagement of the plurality of mounting elements with the plurality of mounting members. The mounting elements are adhesively secured to the glass panel. Neither the plurality of mounting members nor the plurality of mounting elements are readily visible normally when viewing the kitchen appliance such that the glass panel appears to float relative to the door.

  • Publication number: 20050224490
Abstract: A cooking appliance includes an exhaust system that substantially eliminates potential smoke generating byproducts carried by oven gases. The cooking appliance includes an oven cavity having a top wall including a recessed portion within which is mounted a broil element. A plurality of openings are formed in the recessed portion that allow exhaust gases to pass into a smoke elimination chamber. Heat generated by the broil element and in the smoke elimination chamber removes substantially all combustion byproducts contained in the exhaust gases. To further remove combustion byproducts, the exhaust gases are passed through a ceramic catalyst prior to being directed into a vent duct. From the vent duct, the exhaust gasses are directed past a blower into an exhaust duct that, ultimately, guides the exhaust gases from the appliance.

  • Patent number: 6286377
Abstract: Operation of a medium voltage spring powered circuit breaker is analyzed by determining the linear position of a selected driven part of the circuit breaker operating mechanism. When the charged closing springs of the operating mechanism are released, the selected driven part, such as a vacuum interrupter stem or push rod, moves to a new linear position as actuated by the release of the charged closing springs. Linkages are provided to the driven parts. LVDT sensors engage each of the linkages to determine the linear positions of the driven parts. A processing unit collects operation data for the operating mechanism when the charged closing springs are released to actuate and produce linear movement of the driven parts. The operation data includes a plurality of the linear positions of the driven parts. A microprocessor-based routine and interface outputs the operation data.

  • Patent number: 4753389
Abstract: An improved system and method for providing a controlled release of vapors from a vaporizable material such as a fragrance material provided in a container for air freshening. The system includes a sealable container containing a porous reservoir medium, which contains a liquid fragrance material in communication with a plenum cavity for accumulation of vapors therein without reaching a pressure equilibrium with the liquid source. A permeable barrier is provided between the plenum and the atmosphere for metered release of vapors through an aperture provided in an impermeable barrier to the atmosphere. The reservoir medium contains capillaries and the surface area of the reservoir medium adjacent the plenum is made large compared to that of the apertures in the impermeable barrier. Thus, the conversion of a liquid phase fragrance material in the reservoir absorbent material to vapor phase for dispersal to the surrounding air is controlled so that the service life of the device is substantially extended.

  • Patent number: 4449710
Abstract: Game apparatus designed specifically for use as a teaching tool to reward participants for "correct" responses to life situation problems and including a game board having a winner's circle and a plurality of ramps leading radially into the circle, each of said ramps having a plurality of color coded spaces, said game apparatus also including a selection die having color coded surfaces thereon certain of which match the colors of said ramp spaces and certain of said die surface colors determining the action that participant should take. Said game apparatus also includes a play book having preselected life situation problems with multiple choice responses, choosing the "correct" response entitling the participant to a reward, said game apparatus also including a reward selection spinner with a reward selection board, each having matching indicia to determine the specific reward.
