  • Patent number: 5183089
Abstract: A knife assembly for a chipping canter has a knife holder which is mounted on a rotatable chipper head. Along an upper edge of the knife holder is a receiving and holding portion in which is removably mounted a readily replaceable chipper knife.

  • Patent number: 5076510
Abstract: A thread bobbin especially useful for tying artificial flies and the like. The bobbin has a rotatable spool mounted on an arbor. The arbor also supports a yoke that holds a thread delivery tube. An annular space is defined between the arbor and an inner surface of the spool. A coiled flat spring is contained within the annular space. The spring is free in the sense that neither end is fixed to any other structural portion except by friction. In the resting or neutral position one end of the spring engages the inner surface of the spool and the other surface of the arbor. When thread is withdrawn the spring grips both the spool and arbor and the spring is tensioned. After more than a predetermined length of thread has been removed the spring slips clutch-like against the inner surface of the drum to prevent overtensioning. When tension is removed from the withdrawn thread an amount of thread up to the predetermined length is automatically rewound.

  • Patent number: 5074092
Abstract: The invention is a laminated wood product having superior appearance and dimensional stability. It has a core member of common lumber. This core member has been relieved in one of a number of ways to reduce or eliminate warping induced by internal stresses. Preferably this is accomplished by making kerfs in the edges or in the faces which extend almost completely through the product. Sheets of patched or otherwise relatively defect-free veneer are then laminated to each face of the core member. These prevent telegraphing of core defects and kerfs. A piece of clear or otherwise acceptable appearance grade lumber is then laminated to each edge of the product. Ultimately, appearance grade veneer is laminated to each face to create an assembly giving the appearance and utility of clear, solid sawn wood.

  • Patent number: 4544145
Abstract: A vise for holding small objects. It is particularly useful as a fly tying vise. It comprises a support bearing a housing having a rotatable central arbor carried in low friction bearings. The preferred form has a hub mounted at each end of the arbor. One hub houses a clutch or other locking device. The other hub bears a clamping arrangement having fixed and moveable members with distal jaw portions adapted to hold an object such as a fishhook. The clamping arrangement has a longitudinal axis essentially parallel to but off-axis from the longitudinal axis of the arbor. The axis of the arbor does not pass through the jaws of the clamping arrangement. This permits a hook to be held in the vise with its shank lying on the axis of rotation of the arbor. In this way body thread or other dressing can be rapidly and accurately applied as the fly is created. Jaw members have essentially parallel and planar opposing faces with the maximum opening being controlled by an adjusting screw.
