  • Patent number: 9116296
Abstract: An optical fiber device includes a first optical element for transmitting light. An output fiber includes an output fiber core having a light receiving end optically aligned to receive light from the first optical element, and includes at least a first outer cladding on a clad portion. The output fiber includes a mode stripper adhesive with a first adhesive composition and a structural adhesive with a second adhesive composition thereon. The mode stripper adhesive is positioned closer to the first optical element than the structural adhesive to strip a majority of power of cladding guided mode(s) light before reaching the structural adhesive. The mode stripper adhesive has a lower hardness as compared to the structural adhesive, and is substantially indexed matched to an outermost layer of the output fiber that it is in direct contact with.

  • Patent number: 8317413
Abstract: A packaged fused-fiber device includes a fused-fiber device having at least one input fiber and at least one output fiber, and a fused portion between the input fiber and output fiber. A concave shaped substrate has an inside surface and an outside surface, wherein a minimum distance from the inside surface to the outside surface that is generally set by the substrate thickness is substantially constant throughout the substrate. An affixment material secures the first and second ends of the fused portion to the inside surface of the substrate. A thermally conductive housing is in thermal contact with the outside surface of the substrate. In one embodiment the substrate has an L-shaped cross section and the housing is a hollow housing that has a rectangular cross section.

  • Patent number: 7653269
Abstract: A quasi-PM fused optical coupler device and method for forming the same. The optical coupler device includes a first polarization maintaining (PM) input section providing a first PM input for the fused optical coupler device for receiving a linearly polarized signal and a first PM input section output. A non-PM fiber including fusion region has an input optically coupled to the first PM input section output, the fusion region including a fusion region output. A first intermediate non-PM output and a second intermediate non-PM output are both optically coupled to the fusion region output. A first support structure is provided for securing the fusion region thereto, wherein the first intermediate non-PM output includes a cleaved output near an outer edge of the first support structure to provide a shortened first intermediate non-PM output.
