  • Patent number: 7165338
Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring an item to be cut on a saw. The apparatus includes a backstop attached to a support surface, a first measuring means attached to the backstop for providing a lateral measurement of distance from a cutting means, a second measuring means for providing a measurement beyond a length of the backstop, and a third measuring means attached to the backstop for providing a measurement for vertical adjustment of the second measuring means. In one embodiment, the first and second measuring means are linear measurement scales, such as rulers, and the third measuring means, in yet another embodiment, is a coilable tape measure.

  • Publication number: 20030188374
Abstract: A suspender system is disclosed that has a pocket for receiving items integrated with a shoulder pad used in the suspender system. The integrated pocket is constructed so as to enable the wearer to place items within the pocket without looking and to avoid placing an item between the pocket and a strap to which the shoulder pad is attached. Further disclosed is a display system to secure the clips on the suspender so that they do not become entangled with other items when the suspenders are displayed for sale.

  • Patent number: 5787599
Abstract: A layout and guide tool in which a coilable tape measure is disposed on a base to serve as a template for marking a workpiece or fashioning the workpiece with a tool. The layout tool has a guide to align the tool with the workpiece so that the integral template is in known orientation to the workpiece, and witness marks from which to read a direct numerical measurement of the distance from the end of the workpiece to the relevant work point or layout point.

  • Patent number: 5197365
Abstract: A measuring scale is disclosed for use in connection with a mitre saw, a cut-off saw, and similar cutting implement which includes a support surface on which a piece of wood to be cut is placed, and a saw blade operable to cut such a piece of wood. The measuring scale includes an upstanding backstop disposed to extend laterally in one direction from the saw blade above the support surface, against which the piece of wood may be placed for cutting, and a coilable tape measure having a casing for mounting on the backstop and a coiled tape disposed in the casing so that a free end thereof may be grasped to allow pulling the tape outwardly from the casing in the one direction. A marking is incribed in the backstop at a location on the other side of the casing from the saw blade. A scale is inscribed on the coiled tape and includes indicia for indicating the length of the piece of wood being cut when the free end of the tape is aligned with the adjacent end of the piece of wood.

  • Patent number: 4756458
Abstract: A receptacle for a pencil, tool or the like which is initially slidably carried upon a workman's suspender strap by use of loops. Typically, after the suspenders have been adjusted and sized to fit the body and suit the preferences of the workman intending to use the suspenders, the receptacle is axially displaced along and relative to the associated suspender strap until a location satisfying the desires of the workman is found whereupon the receptacle is stationarily anchored by one or more fasteners to the chosen suspender site so that inadvertent relative axial displacement thereafter is prevented.
