  • Patent number: 12133516
Abstract: A trap accessory for attachment to a marine trap that facilitates release of by-catch. A buoyant recovery buoy is operably attached to a trap frame secured to the marine trap. Components for operably attaching the recovery buoy to the trap frame include a latch and attachment components, of which at least one of these components is a Degradable Metal (DM). The DM maintains the integrity of the trap and trap accessory for a pre-determined time, typically 1 year or less. When one or more of the DM components are sufficiently degraded, the recovery buoy is released to open a slot through which animals can escape. A buoy line connected to the trap frame maintains connection between the marine trap and the recovery buoy, which assists in recovery of the marine trap.

  • Patent number: 10046094
Abstract: The invention pertains to methods of treating alloys, particularly, biodegradable alloys containing Mg, Zn or Fe. The alloys can be treated with at least one of the following procedures: mechanical polishing, anodization, and polymer coating. Advantageously, methods provided herein enhance the anti-thrombogenicity of the alloy surface. Such materials can be used for preparing biomedical devices, such as endovascular implants, vascular implants, drug-eluting stents, orthopedic prostheses, or implantable chips. Methods of treating a subject by implanting the biomedical devices into the subject are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20150315681
Abstract: The current invention provides novel nitinol alloys, particularly, nitinol alloys containing a third metallic element referred to as ternary nitinol alloys. Accordingly, the current invention provides nitinol alloys including, but not limited to, Nickel-Titanium-Chromium (NiTiCr) and Nickel-Titanium-Tantalum (NiTiTa). The current invention also provides implants manufactured from the ternary nitinol alloys. The implants comprise the ternary nitinol alloys and are, optionally, surface treated to promote anti-thrombogenicity and biocompatibility, for example, through magnetoelectropolishing (MEP). Accordingly, the current invention provides nitinol alloys and implants comprising the nitinol alloys that reduce the risk of clotting due to stagnant blood flow, eliminate flushing, and minimize infection and damage to blood vessels.
