  • Patent number: 10493804
Abstract: In one aspect, a method provides a reciprocating bolt by a bolt assembly having a bolt assembly body, a cap affixed to the bolt assembly body, and a base affixed to the bolt assembly body opposite the cap. The method includes biasing a bolt carrier in the bolt assembly body in a retracted position relative to the bolt assembly, resulting in a center portion of a diaphragm disposed between the cap and the bolt assembly body being deflected toward the cap. The method also includes applying an actuation force to the bolt carrier so as to move the bolt carrier from the retracted position to an extended position relative to the bolt assembly by oppositely deflecting the center portion of the diaphragm toward the base, and discontinuing the applying of the actuation force while the bolt carrier is in the extended position.

  • Patent number: 9409455
Abstract: A selectably engaged rotary union includes a stator body, and a rotor configured to rotate relative to the stator body, the stator body surrounding a portion of the rotor and configured to transfer a fluidic medium between the stator body and the rotor. The selectably engaged rotary union further includes a plurality of sealing elements affixed to the stator body and disposed between the stator body and the rotor, a gap being present between the plurality of sealing elements and the rotor, where the plurality of sealing elements are configured to selectably close the gap so as to produce a temporary seal between the stator body and the rotor enabling a transfer of the fluidic medium.

  • Patent number: 9205713
Abstract: A bolt assembly provides a reciprocating bolt. The bolt assembly includes a bolt assembly body, a cap affixed to the bolt assembly body, and a base affixed to the bolt assembly body opposite the cap, wherein the bolt assembly body includes a bolt carrier having a cap end disposed proximally to the cap and a bolt receiving end disposed distally from the cap. The bolt assembly also includes a biasing mechanism biasing the bolt carrier in a retracted position relative to the bolt assembly, and an extension actuator including a diaphragm having a center portion disposed between the cap and the bolt assembly body, the center portion of the diaphragm being deflectable to enable the biasing of the bolt carrier in the retracted position, the center portion of the diaphragm being oppositely deflectable to apply an actuation force to the cap end of the bolt carrier so as to move the bolt carrier from the retracted position to an extended position relative to the bolt assembly.

  • Patent number: 9150060
Abstract: A wheel for mounting a tire thereon is provided. The wheel includes a wheel rim including a pressurized air reservoir, at least one air input to the wheel rim being coupled to the pressurized air reservoir, and at least one valve coupled between the pressurized air reservoir and a corresponding at least one air output from the wheel rim, the at least one valve configured to selectably supply pressurized air to an interior of the tire when mounted on the wheel rim.

  • Patent number: 9045013
Abstract: An adaptive tire system can include retractable and extendable bolts for enhancing traction, for example, on ice-covered roadways. The system can include pneumatically operated bolt assemblies mounted inside a tire having custom reinforced belts. The bolt assemblies can include locking devices configured to be biased towards a locked position so as to lock deployable bolts into extended and/or retracted positions without the need for persistently or continuously applied actuation force or energy. The system can include wheel-mounted, manually operated controls or remote and/or automated controls. The system can include rotary unions for transmitting actuation controls from a vehicle body into an associated wheel. The bolts can also be adjustable and can include removable and replaceable tips serviced from tire exterior while inflated, deflated, on wheel or off wheel.
