  • Patent number: 10417847
Abstract: In a medication administration system, in-room medications cabinets have at least one locked compartment for each patient in the room. The nurse or other caregiver opens the respective compartment by activating a personal electronic device (PED), e.g., cell phone, using a fingerprint or other identifying characteristic, and generates a 2-D bar coded symbol to display on the screen of the PED. The symbol includes the date/time that access was requested. The authorization code, facility code, and date and time are combined and encrypted. The bar-coded symbol is displayed to a reader on the cabinet, which decodes the bar coded symbol, decrypts the contents, and unlocks the patient-specific compartment, but only if the actual time is within a short interval, e.g., 30 seconds, of the date/time in the bar coded symbol. Alternatively, an NFC capability can be employed rather than a bar-coded symbol.

  • Patent number: 9977873
Abstract: A process of safe, secure storage and transfer of prescription medications for patient care in a hospital, clinic, nursing home, or similar health care facility, permits the authorized user to obtain medications for multiple patients along a patient care route, place the medications in respective locking compartments for each patient, and bring the cart to each patient in turn to administer the medications. Scanning in the user ID opens the cart, and the ward or floor medications cabinet displays a 2-D bar code containing patient identification data, the user identification, and one or more delimiter characters indicating that the medication was transferred by the authorized user directly to the cart. For each patient, a patient specific drawer or compartment is unlocked and opened, and the medications are placed into it. This is repeated for each patient on the care route. At each patient bedside, the user scans in the patient ID, which opens only the patient specific drawer.

  • Patent number: 9655438
Abstract: An ergonomic work station has upper and lower work platforms disposed one above the other. These are supported on electrically actuated telescoping pedestals to allow the user to select and adjust the elevation of the work platforms individually. Position sensors within each of the pedestals sense the elevation of the upper end of the respective pedestal and provide an output to logic and motor control circuitry. This is configured to maintain the lower work platform level when the height of the lower work platform is being adjusted and to prevent the upper and lower work platforms from colliding, by maintaining at least a predetermined minimum vertical distance between the two work platforms when the lower work platform is being raised or when the upper work platform is being lowered.

  • Patent number: 9289061
Abstract: A controlled access file cabinet permits an authorized user access only to one file drawer or one locked compartment at a time. The cabinet has at least one pull-out drawer with a lock mechanism that self-locks when the drawer is pushed in and closed, and has an electro-mechanical servo to release the drawer for authorized access. One or more drawers may be divided into a row of locked compartments. Slide bar lock mechanisms interact with with lock pins on hinged lids or covers for the compartments. Only one compartment can be opened at a time. A control board within the cabinet ensures that all drawers are closed and latched before any can be released. The secure cabinet may be connected with a network, or by i2c or daisy chain to other secure file cabinets, including cabinets retro-fitted with a bolt-on lock mechanism. Computer software limits access to certain areas of the cabinet to specific authorized users, and maintains inventory and audit trail over multiple cabinets.

  • Patent number: 9078797
Abstract: A controlled access anesthesia cart has at least one drawer or compartment for storing general-use anesthesia items, and at least one drawer or compartment for storing controlled substances, e.g., narcotics. A key card reader on the cart is sensitive to an authorization code to unlock the compartments in the cart for access. The anesthesiologist needs to enter a pass code for access to the controlled substances compartment(s). The compartments then remain unlocked so long as the anesthesiologist remains present. A sonic sensor, e.g., an ultrasonic rangefinder device, communicates with the computer of the cart, and when the anesthesiologist is outside a given beam volume in front of the cart, the cart automatically re-locks the compartments either immediately or after a predetermined short delay period.
