  • Patent number: 4845411
Abstract: A brushless DC motor has no poles. Every 180.degree. electrical 3 coils, each a portion of a total winding, are wound onto the stator in 3 slots and in overlapping fashion. The overlapped portions of the coils are wound in the same flux creating direction. The windings are connected at a central, floating connection. Transistors connected to the remaining ends of the windings direct current to or from the windings so that two coils are always conductive in every 360.degree. electric arcuate length of stator. Hall devices 120.degree. electrical apart have their outputs fed to a logic, commutation circuit that decides, based on rotor positions, which of the transistors to cause to conduct.

  • Patent number: 4312278
Abstract: A furnace system suitable for independent use and for retrofitting conventional central heating oil furnaces to permit controlled continuous and efficient combustion of fragmented wood type fuels. Wood chips or other fuel fragments are trickle fed into a refractory wood type combustion chamber. For retrofitting an oil furnace the oil burner gun is removed. A flame tube adapter couples the wood type fuel combustion chamber into the oil combustion chamber and heat exchanger plenum of the conventional furnace. The oil burner gun of the retrofitted furnace is used to ignite the wood chips or other fuel fragments during start up. A blower establishes forced draft. The furnace system includes automatic controls for sequencing operation of the elements of the retrofitting furnace system. An independent wood chip furnace system is also described.

  • Patent number: 4268948
Abstract: A tool for forming parting grooves in a flat, plastically deformable workpiece, especially a continuously cast steel slab in a manner which seals the internal porosity of the slab in the regions which become exposed upon division, has a working portion in the form of a ridge which is most preferably in the form of a circumferential flange on a roll; and the cross-sectional shape of the ridge or flange is that of a highly convex tip between two gently convex side faces, and optionally, or essentially if either or both of the tip and the side faces are instead straight, the angle at which the side faces are mutually inclined is 20.degree. to 60.degree., the width of the tip is a given porportion of the thickness of the workpiece, and the width of the tip is specifically related to the said angle of inclination of the side faces. The height of the side faces, and their curvature and that of the tip, are also preferably within set limits.

  • Patent number: 4035364
Abstract: In the methylation of 4-amino-6-t.-butyl-3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazin-5-one to produce 4-amino-6-t.-butyl-3-methylmercapto-1,2,4-triazine-5-one using methyl bromide, the reaction is run in the absence of air whereby product coloration is avoided. Desirably considerable agitation is employed along with recycle and especially with an emulsifying agent which markedly speeds up the reaction. Measures such as operating under a slight vacuum and recycle of unused methyl bromide and mother liquor are employed to improve the yield and to avoid the problems of discharging the bromides to the environment.
