  • Patent number: 8416094
Abstract: A motion sensor capable of detecting the direction of motion in three dimensions is disclosed. The motion sensor can be built into a printed circuit board allowing for simple and cost effective manufacturing. The motions sensor is designed to utilize a through hole in a printed circuit board, which is capped by on each side by housings creating a cavity where a spherical metal ball can move in three dimensions. This interior surface of the through hole and the housings have conductive element that when in contact with the spherical metal ball close a circuit creating an electrical signal indicative of direction.

  • Patent number: 7519400
Abstract: An AM/FM modulation scheme is presented for optimizing communications between a remote control device held by a user and a receiving unit installed in a vehicle. Historically, these systems communicated with amplitude modulated signals having good range but poor immunity to ambient random radio frequency noise. Frequency modulated systems provide improved immunity to noise however at the expense of range. The object of this invention is to use two or more modulation modes to combine their advantages. A scheme has been devised whereby circuitry capable of alternately operating in at least two modes is used. The same information is therefore transmitted using two or more modulation techniques in succession. The receiving unit also has circuitry and has listening cycles ensuring eventual synchronization with the transmitting unit. If one mode fails due to distance or ambient noise, the other can then attempt to establish a link.

  • Patent number: 7483783
Abstract: A slave controller for a remote vehicle starting system. The slave controller is mounted in a vehicle having an internal combustion engine started by a starter motor. The slave controller has an antenna circuit input for connection to an antenna circuit suitable for picking up an RF signal and an output. The slave controller also has a control module, coupled to the antenna circuit input. The control module is responsive to a signal transmitted through the antenna circuit input and originating from the antenna circuit to generate a command signal at the output for directing the starter motor to crank the internal combustion engine. The control module is operative to establish a data communication with an external entity through the antenna circuit input to perform a maintenance procedure.

  • Publication number: 20050251297
Abstract: A slave controller for mounting in a vehicle having an engine for driving at least one wheel of the vehicle via a manual transmission and a cabin having a plurality of components for operation by a user of the vehicle while in the cabin. The slave controller has a control module responsive to an RF signal conveying an engine start command for starting the engine of the vehicle. The control module is capable of performing a transmission state check to determine if the engine is in a driving relationship with the wheel. When the transmission state check is performed and the control module determines that the engine is in a driving relationship with the wheel, the control module acquires an operational state preventing starting of the engine in response to the RF signal. The control module is responsive to actuation of one or more of the plurality of components to initiate the transmission state check.

  • Patent number: 6087996
Abstract: The present invention relates to a thin-film antenna device particularly well suited for use with remote vehicle starting systems. The antenna device includes an electrically conducting film printed on an insulating substrate that can be bonded to any suitable supporting surface, such as the windshield of a vehicle. The electrically conductive film is protected by an outer protective coating along its entire surface except at two areas that form contact pads for receiving the terminals of a signal processing unit such as a radio receiver, demodulator, filter and amplifier, among many others. The signal processing unit is mounted to the same surface to which the antenna device is secured by a releasable attachment system such as a hook and loop type fastener. In a typical installation, a patch of hook-type material is adhesively bonded to the supporting surface overlying the antenna device. The patch of hook-type material includes a pair of apertures registering with the contact pads of the antenna device.

  • Patent number: 5673017
Abstract: A system for remotely starting a motor of a vehicle and also capable of operating various vehicle accessories such as alarm system, door locks, door windows, trunk latch, etc. The system comprises a portable hand-held transmitter generating a command in the form of a binary coded sequence and a controller mounted in the vehicle for operating the vehicle's motor and accessories in dependence thereon. The system is characterized by a novel encoding scheme of the digitized sequence that prevents command misinterpretation by the controller, thereby avoiding an unintended avocation of the vehicle's motor or another accessory.

  • Patent number: 5614883
Abstract: An automotive opto-electric starter interlock for use in a motor vehicle for the purpose of preventing the engine from being remotely started unless the transmission is in neutral. The starter interlock includes an optical sensors array mounted to the transmission shift linkage. The output of the sensors is dependent upon the position of the shift linkage, hence allowing to determine if the transmission is in neutral. A microprocessor stimulates the sensors and observes their response to determine the position of the shift linkage. The information supplied by the sensors is also used to detect system malfunctions.

  • Patent number: 4244774
Abstract: An apparatus for the installation of a defroster of the resistive type on the rear window of a completely assembled motor vehicle. The defroster comprises heating conductors in the form of thin pre-glued strips of solid copper or copper alloy applied to the inside surface of the rear window in a first direction with two spaced apart connecting conductors in the traverse direction. The apparatus is used for applying the various parallel heating conductors to the inside surface of the window. It comprises a guide member temporarily retained against the inside surface of the rear window, and a carrier having a head which receives and applies the strips of pre-glued copper conductor to the rear window, a base adapted to roll along the guiding edge defined by the guide member, and an upright shaft for supporting the head affixed, adjustable distance away from the base.
