  • Patent number: 7527580
Abstract: In a method of shutting down an internal combustion engine, the shutdown of the internal combustion engine is executed upon initiation of the shut-down procedure starting from a defined operating condition which is selected in such a way that a desired rest position of the crankshaft is achieved from which the engine can be rapidly restarted.

  • Patent number: 7448982
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for switching on and off the internal combustion engine which drives a vehicle by way of a manual transmission. The manual transmission is associated with a clutch for producing and releasing the frictional connection between the internal combustion engine and drive train. The clutch has a clutch operator for producing and releasing the frictional connection to the drive train. The clutch is actuable by a driver by way of a clutch pedal. A variable representing the engaging speed of the clutch operator is detected. If this variable exceeds a limit value, the starting of the internal combustion engine is interrupted.

  • Patent number: 7201128
Abstract: In a fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine with direct fuel injection including a fuel supply pump and, downstream thereof, a high pressure pump for supplying high pressure fuel to a plurality of injectors and, parallel to the high pressure fuel pump, a hydraulic transmission operated by the low pressure fuel of the fuel supply pump for generating initially high pressure fuel to the fuel injectors so as to permit instant engine startup upon actuation of a valve disposed in the fuel supply line from the fuel supply pump to the hydraulic transmission.

The manual transmission is associated with a clutch for producing and releasing the frictional connection between the internal combustion engine and drive train. The clutch has a clutch operator for producing and releasing the frictional connection to the drive train. The clutch is actuable by a driver by means of a clutch pedal. According to the invention, a variable representing the engaging speed of the clutch operator is detected. If this variable exceeds a limit value, the starting of the internal combustion engine is interrupted.

  • Publication number: 20060096279
Abstract: 1. Internal combustion engine comprising a gas conveying system and operating method therefor. 2.1 The invention proposes an internal combustion engine (1) having a gas conveying system with a turbine (7) which can be driven by an airstream and a pump (8) which can be driven by the turbine (7) and by means of which gas can be fed to the exhaust system (3, 4, 5), as well as an operating method therefor. 2.2. According to the invention, when the internal combustion engine (1) is starting up, the quantity of fuel injected into it is set as a function of the delivery capacity of the pump (8). 2.3. Use in motor vehicles, in particular in passenger cars having an internal combustion engine with fuel injection.
