  • Publication number: 20060150814
Abstract: A method and a system for removing dispersed and dissolved hydrocarbons from produced water in connection with the extraction of oil and gas from geological formations beneath the sea bed or the ground. The produced water first undergoes mechanical or electromechanical treatment in a sub-process “A” to remove the dispersed hydrocarbons from the water and is subsequently treated in a sub-process “B” by stripping with a circulating inert gas in one or more stages (1, 2) to remove the dissolved hydrocarbons. The inert gas consists expediently of N2 containing 02 and the subsequent removal of the hydrocarbons is carried out in a catalytic converter (5) by catalytic combustion of the stripped hydrocarbons.

  • Publication number: 20060123993
Abstract: A system for drying gas, for example removing moisture (water) from natural gas in connection with the extraction of oil and gas, comprising a drying unit for drying the gas by means of a drying liquid that is mixed with the gas and a regeneration unit (C) that regenerates the gas. The drying unit comprises one or more processing stages (A, B) where each stage comprises a mass transfer unit in the form of a static mixer unit or pipe loop (2) in which the gas is mixed with the drying liquid and passed in the direction of flow of the drying liquid to a gas/liquid separator (3), and where the gas is designed to be passed on the next stage (B) or on to an outlet (6), while the drying liquid is passed to the regeneration unit (C) and/or to the mass transfer unit (2) for the relevant processing stage(s) (A and/or B).

  • Patent number: 6392072
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for conducting a mass transfer between a gas and a liquid, or for conducting a chemical reaction between a gas and a liquid. The method comprises supplying a liquid into a dynamic mixer, supplying a stripping gas or a reaction gas into the dynamic mixer, and flowing the liquid and the stripping gas or the reaction gas through the dynamic mixer in a turbulent co-current flow. The dynamic mixer includes a columnar casing, a rotor within the casing, which rotor has blades along substantially an entire length thereof, and stator blades positioned between the rotor blades within the casing along substantially an entire length of the casing.

  • Patent number: 5900154
Abstract: Method and equipment for purification of a liquid, where the liquid is polluted by other liquids or solid material, e.g. removing oil from oil contamined water, comprising a flocculation device (2) and a flotation device (8). The method comprises adding one or more chemicals to the liquid in a flocculation device that comprises one or more pipe loops (2) with built-in agitators (3, 20, 21) providing turbulence and plug-type flow through the loop. Thereupon purified liquid and pollutants are separated in the flotation device or in a sedimentation device (8). The equipment according to the invention comprises a pipe loop (2), provided with built-in agitator(s) (3, 20, 21), connected to the flotation device (8).

  • Patent number: 4765807
Abstract: A system for the treatment of liquids, especially oxygen enrichment of water which is used for aquaculture purposes such as the breeding of fish, avoids gas bubbles in a water reservoir and makes it possible to freely treat fresh water and/or recirculated water for optimal temperature control and/or water removal. A water flow is joined with a flow of pure oxygen gas which is supplied from an oxygen tank containing liquid oxygen. The oxygen is led through an evaporator into a flow system forming a recirculating circuit with pipelines, and an oxygen enrichment device or reactor unit where water and oxygen are mixed to form a turbulent, foaming gas/liquid flow mixture. Such mixture is subsequently led into a gas/liquid separator where gas and liquid are separated. The gas mixture from the separator, which now in addition to oxygen also will contain contaminants such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide, is recirculated by means of a compressor.

  • Patent number: 4752306
Abstract: Provided is a system for treatment of and mass transfer in liquid/gas mixtures, especially removal of oxygen from seawater to be injected into deep structures to increase the production of underground hydrocarbon resources. The oxygen removal is performed by an inert stripping gas which is purified and regenerated before it is recirculated. The liquid and the gas are pumped in turbulent concurrent flow with the inert gas through one or more tube-like zones to one or more separation zones where the gas and liquid are separated. The liquid is led to the next treatment stage, while the stripping gas is returned to the prior treatment stage. The liquid flow and the gas flow are pumped and controlled independently of each other. This provides freedom to obtain optimal treatment conditions and correct amounts of transported liquid.

  • Patent number: 4530820
Abstract: Seawater which is to be used as injection water in underground oil reservoirs to obtain a higher degree of hydrocarbon recovery deoxygenated by a new and improved process that eliminates the consumption of stripping gas and at the same time attains the highest possible degree of oxygen removal without polluting the water. Seawater is circulated through an inert gas, thus removing oxygen. Degassed water is separated from the inert gas, and the latter is routed through a zone for purification and regeneration. Hydrogen is introduced into the gas containing oxygen, and this gas mixture subsequently flows through a catalytic reactor where hydrogen and oxygen are reacted to form water, whereafter the purified gas is recirculated.
