Abstract: Methods, compositions, and systems that may be used for the selective reduction of water permeability of subterranean formations using hydrogel polymer materials are provided. An embodiment of the present disclosure is a method comprising: providing a treatment fluid comprising a carrier fluid and a hydrogel polymer comprising the reaction product of a polysaccharide and a derivative of acrylic acid; and introducing the treatment fluid into a wellbore that penetrates at least a portion of a subterranean formation.
