  • Patent number: 11533600
Abstract: A method for detecting and distributing alert data based upon both receiving alert data encoded in a terrestrial television broadcast transmission and receiving an identification of a location of a device includes receiving, by a first device in a plurality of devices in a mesh network, a terrestrial broadcast signal including at least one datacast packet. A second device in the plurality of devices receives a satellite transmission identifying a location of the second device. The method includes confirming, by a notification engine executed by a third device in the plurality of devices in the mesh network, receipt of both the satellite transmission and alert data encoded in the terrestrial broadcast signal. The method includes activating, by the notification engine, at least one alert module in the mesh network, upon confirmation of the receipt of both the satellite transmission and the alert data encoded in the terrestrial broadcast signal.

  • Patent number: 8316135
Abstract: A highly scalable primary server is provided to serve an increasing number of users and remote devices. Instead of communicating with a primary server using an expensive communication protocol, a remote device communicates with a secondary server using a less expensive protocol to determine whether the primary server desires to communicate control instructions to the remote device. When the primary server has a request to control the remote device, the primary server creates a table entry to the secondary server to notify the remote device of a request to communicate. Upon polling the secondary server and learning of the created table entry, the remote device establishes a communication connection with the primary server to receive the instructions for controlling the remote device. In this manner, the demand for resources needed for communication with the primary server is significantly reduced.

  • Publication number: 20060275807
Abstract: The invention provides an isolated, novel steroid 5?-reductase enzyme termed SRD5AIII. The protein has an estimated molecular weight of 37 kDa and is capable of converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone at a pH of about 7.0. Also provided is a method for identifying inhibitors of SRD5AIII by contacting SRD5AIII with a test compound and measuring the activity of the enzyme. A reduced activity relative to a control indicates that the test compound is an inhibitor of SRD5AIII. A method is also provided for detecting androgen stimulated prostate cancer or recurrent prostate cancer in an individual. The method comprises obtaining a prostate biopsy from an individual and determining the level of expression of SRD5AIII gene or protein relative to a normal control. An increased expression of SRD5AIII relative to the control is indicative of androgen stimulated prostate cancer or recurrent prostate cancer.

  • Patent number: 5915282
Abstract: Methods of fluid handling are disclosed. In one method, a pump fluidly associated with a nozzle is energized to move a first fluid with respect to the nozzle. Pressure fluidly associated with the nozzle is substantially continuously monitored with a pressure transducer fluidly associated with the nozzle during movement of the first fluid. An average of the pressure substantially continuously monitored is calculated. The calculated average is used to determine a threshold. The pump fluidly associated with the nozzle is energized to move a second fluid with respect to the nozzle. Pressure fluidly associated with the nozzle is substantially continuously monitored with a pressure transducer fluidly associated with the nozzle during movement of the second fluid. The substantially continuously monitored pressure is integrated. The threshold is compared with the integrated pressure to determine whether movement of the second fluid was intended or unintended.
