  • Publication number: 20230372712
Abstract: Newly implanted cochlear implant recipients have highly individual and variable patterns of increasing tolerance and recognition of stimulus. Disclosed techniques include a series of self-administered fittings. During an initial clinical fitting, the recipient is given a basic map. Working at their own pace, the recipient can perform self-administered percept exercises that test the recipient's growing capacity to perceive stimulus quality. The results of the exercises are analyzed and compared with reference data. A clinical alert is generated when the recipients data pattern conforms to a predetermined criteria that indicates the recipient can benefit from a clinical visit because their performance is of a sufficiently stable nature. Optionally, the results of the exercises can be combined with trained clinical data, to make incremental map adjustments over time as the recipient is adapting to cochlear stimulation at their own pace.

  • Publication number: 20230292060
Abstract: Presented herein are techniques for generating a hierarchical classification of a set of sound signals received at hearing prosthesis. The hierarchical classification includes a plurality of nested classifications of a sound environment associated with the set of sound signals received at hearing prosthesis, including a primary classification and one or more secondary classifications that each represent different characteristics of the sound environment. The primary classification represents a basic categorization of the sound environment, while the secondary classifications define sub-categories/refinements of the associated primary classification and/or other secondary classifications.

  • Patent number: 10537739
Abstract: A method, including the action of executing a first evaluation including evaluating first interactions of respective current spreads with one another for a plurality of first electrodes implanted in a recipient resulting from energizement thereof with at least one second implanted electrode disabled, wherein the second electrode, if enabled and energized at about the same level as at least one of the first electrodes, would result in current spread to at least one of the plurality of first electrodes, and one of disabling at least one third electrode of the plurality of first electrodes based on the evaluation or maintaining an enablement of the nondisabled electrodes based on the evaluation.

  • Patent number: 9999769
Abstract: Presented herein are excitation modeling and matching sound coding techniques that are configured to account for a recipient's estimated or predetermined neural response so as to improve a recipient's ability to perceive sound. More specifically, the techniques presented herein correlate a modeled excitation pattern with a target excitation pattern to generate a pattern of stimulation current configured to evoke an excitation pattern within the recipient's auditory system that approximates the target excitation pattern.
