  • Patent number: 4055134
Abstract: An easy opening end closure is formed with annular, double folded band adjacent the chuck wall. A weakening line defining a removable panel portion is formed in the center segment of the fold so that the folded edges of the single band provide smooth protective surfaces on both the ledge and the removable panel portion. This disclosure also relates to a method for forming the above described easy-opening end closure wherein the weakening line is formed in the end panel prior to complete formation of the folded band.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 5, 1976
Date of Patent: October 25, 1977
    Assignee: The Continental Group, Inc.

  • Patent number: 4018357
Abstract: An improved easy-opening end closure wherein the end panel is formed with a number of intersecting, straight score lines which define a number of interconnected non-detachable openable segments adapted to be pushed inwardly to open the closure. An opening member is provided, adapted to effect opening of the closure pursuant to a panelwardly directed application of digital pressure on the nose portion thereof, and having a number of camming surfaces for fracturing the score lines and for urging the segments inwardly.

  • Patent number: 4003496
Abstract: An easy-opening end closure of the full opening type is formed with the flap-defining score-line located in the vertical chuck wall whereat the cutedge, of that portion of the closure remaining attached to the container after opening, is shielded by the container sidewall. The disclosure also relates to a method for forming the above described easy-opening end closure wherein the scoreline is formed in a horizontal portion of the end panel, said portion thereafter being upset to a substantially vertical position whereat it comprises a part of the chuck wall.

  • Patent number: 3986631
Abstract: An improved child-resistant self-opening end closure wherein the finger ring portion of the pull tab is nested between two concentric curved protrusions, formed in the end panel, which obstruct access to the ring and prevent grasping and lifting of the tab. To open the closure, an upwardly tilted nose portion of the tab is depressed, thereby causing the ring portion to tilt upwardly to a point whereat it may be grasped. The additional operation, which runs counter to a child's prior experience, renders removal of the closure beyond the capability of a young child.

  • Patent number: 3970105
Abstract: A pressure regulator particularly adaptable for use in aerosol cans in which a chamber is provided having inlet and outlet ports, and a pressure reactive diaphragm, and a dimensionally changeable inlet throttling body, positioned in the chamber, is dimensionally controlled to close and open the inlet port by variations of pressure in the chamber.

  • Patent number: 3967754
Abstract: An improved easy open end closure, characterized by the provision of improved pull tab positioning means for maintaining the pull tab in a desired orientation relative to the flap-defining score line, regardless of doming of the end panel. The finger ring portion of the tab is nested within a recess formed in the end panel. A protrusion, formed interior to this recess, abuts the interior periphery of the finger ring, serving as an anti-rotation abutment. The tab rivet panel is formed at an angle to the plane of the tab, inclining 4.degree.-6.degree. away from the end panel center, whereby a panelward bias is imparted to the finger ring portion of the tab by the tab attachment rivet. This bias serves to retain the finger ring within the recess.

  • Patent number: 3945334
Abstract: This disclosure relates to the forming of folds in a container panel for the purpose of providing a protective fold both about the periphery of a removable panel segment and about the portion of the container panel from which the removable segment has been removed. The two folds are formed in a continuous operation with first one fold being formed and then the other fold being formed without effecting the rupture of the container panel intermediate the folds along a previously formed line of weakening. A die set is provided for properly supporting the various portions of the container member and for applying pressures on the various panels so as to effect a first folding and then a second folding while supporting that panel of the container member containing the line of weakening so as to prevent rupture thereof along the line of weakening.
