  • Patent number: 7026470
Abstract: A method for improving holdout on a coated, cellulosic substrate, such as a man-made fiber board. The process comprises the steps of applying an aqueous carboxymethyl cellulose acetate butyrate size composition to a man-made fiber substrate, forming a sized substrate. The sized substrate is then dried. Next, an aqueous coating composition is applied to form a coated, sized substrate. The coated, sized substrate is then dried. According to the invention, the aqueous carboxymethyl cellulose acetate butyrate size composition used in the process comprises carboxymethyl cellulose acetate butyrate, water, and an organic solvent. The invention also relates to a sized, man-made fiber substrate comprising a man-made fiber substrate and a carboxymethyl cellulose acetate butyrate size. • Patent number: 5746240
Abstract: A freeze protection system for a car wash facility having a plurality of bays and having exposed water lines located in an area that is subjected to freezing temperatures. By using a temperature probe connected via a digital temperature meter to a microprocessor, the system will only operate when the temperature is lower than a pre-set value and will shut off when the temperature is higher than a pre-set value. When activated, a predetermined charge of antifreeze mist will purge the piping in each bay, leaving only a small residual of antifreeze. When a bay is used, the system is reactivated, purging only the bay that has been used. The system is easily adaptable to any number of bays or areas of piping that must be protected.

  • Patent number: 5038096
Abstract: A spectrum analyzer for measuring the frequency spectrum of a pulsed input signal includes a synthesized local oscillator for providing an oscillator signal. The local oscillator is responsive to a digital control input signal to sweep the frequency of the oscillator signal from a start frequency to a stop frequency wherein the values of the start and stop frequencies are determined by the control signal. The oscillator is further responsive to the control signal to stop sweeping the oscillator signal. The oscillator signal is mixed with the pulsed input signal and filtered to determine the peak voltage of a predetermined frequency component of the mixed input signal. A data processor is provided for providing the control signal to the local oscillator. The data processor is adapted to adjust the control signal so that the start frequency of the oscillator is equal to its previous stop frequency minus a predetermined frequency difference.

  • Patent number: 4603327
Abstract: A warning device particularly for use in a coverall worn by a person in a controlled environment warns if the person has unfastened the garment. The garment has fasteners such as a zipper for opening and closing the garment. A pair of electrical contacts are mounted in the zipper track for contact by the zipper head as the zipper head moves along the zipper track. The zipper head establishes continuity through the contacts as it is drawn past. This provides a signal to a transmitter mounted to the coveralls. The transmitter provides a radio frequency signal to a receiver located in a monitoring area. The receiver provides a warning upon reception of the signal.

  • Patent number: 4272862
Abstract: A substantially vertical drum skinning apparatus includes an improved knife, a cushioned drive and an overriding brake, all for improving a skinning operation. The knife is pivoted near the drum and is spring biased toward the drum to an adjustable stop, so that the knife is relatively rigid in line with the primary skinning force applied thereto. It is free to move slightly through a defined area and against a yieldable bias force for facilitating the clean removal of the skin. The drum is driven through a skin clamp, and a flexible cushioned drive coupling for transmitting force to the drum drive shaft and facilitating clamp engagement, and smooth removal of the skin is included. An improved overriding brake holds the drum positively until the skin is tightly clamped and is easily removable for changing worn brake plates.

  • Patent number: 4209695
Abstract: Fluid in a pipeline or container at a refinery or at any of various petroleum producing operations is bombarded with neutrons, and high energy gamma rays resulting from capture of thermal neutrons are detected. The spectra of the detected gamma rays are then analyzed to determine the concentration of the element chlorine, which gives an indication of the presence and concentration of salt water in the fluid. The concentration of sulfur and the percentage gas in the fluid may be determined simultaneously with the concentration of chlorine.

  • Patent number: 4169979
Abstract: Formation fluid is activated by a neutron source. A cluster of three gamma ray detectors provides count rate data with the count values varying among the three detectors as dictated by the geometry of the cluster and the angle of displacement of the activated fluid between the time of neutron bombardment and that of gamma ray detection. Measurements at different time intervals following the activation of the fluid may also be interpreted in terms of the speed of horizontal fluid flow past the borehole.

  • Patent number: 3973131
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for nuclear well logging in which neutron pulse time duration for a high energy neutron generator and the frequency of pulses are selected downhole in the tool by use of a coded signal transmitted by the cable from the earth's surface. Separate channel systems are provided in the downhole tool for desired neutron pulse width and repetition frequency and are operated by a decoder system. Additionally, the accelerator voltage on a high energy neutron generator is controlled by a downhole switching system to selectively obtain different neutron output in response to coded signal transmissions. Moreover, provisions for obtaining different timing pulses to control gates for sampling signals generated in the tool are provided.
