  • Publication number: 20080265109
Abstract: The present invention provides a portable support stand for various devices such as laptop computes, tablet PCs and other electronic equipment. The stand has a tripod configuration which promotes stability of the user device. The front legs of the tripod may be adjusted between compact and extended positions, and may be placed in a position relative to the rear leg anywhere from 0° in a fully closed position to approximately 180° in a fully open position. Audible indicators are used with overall stand adjustment and with adjustment of stoppers at the ends of the front legs. Adjustment of the front legs relative to the rear leg employs a pivot section, including a finger disc spring, an adjustment actuator and an engagement member between the spring and the actuator. The engagement member includes projections or dimples which engage receptacles on an engagement member to secure the stand in a desired arrangement.

  • Publication number: 20080093522
Abstract: The present invention pertains to extension arm apparatuses that are adapted to support user devices throughout a range of positions. A given apparatus may include one or more arms that position the user device remotely from a support position. An extension and retraction device such as a gas cylinder is received within each arm, and provides a force to support the user device as the arm is placed into a given position. A variable force clevis is connected to the extension/retraction device within the arm. The variable force clevis is connected to a pair of locations in the arm as well. As the arm moves, for instance up or down, the variable force clevis rotates within the arm and dynamically adjusts the force provided by the extension/retraction device. Thus, the arm may be positioned as desired, as such force adjustment stabilizes the arm.

  • Publication number: 20080029663
Abstract: The present invention provides a device for holding a laptop computer or other portable devices. The laptop is placed on a support having a generally planar surface. A pair of adjustable arm members is pivotally connected to the support. The user may adjust one or both of the arm members to accommodate portable devices of different sizes. Clips or other connectors are used to secure the laptop to the holding device. The clips connect to the arm members and to the support. The clips may have one or more components, and may be configured to slide along the arm members and the support. The support may include a number of projections that can be arranged in an X-shaped configuration. A release plate or other connector couples the holding device to an extension assembly. The release plate provides a quick release from a tilting device of the extension assembly.

  • Patent number: 7014157
Abstract: A positionable support device includes a friction cylinder as a counterbalance in place of conventional gas springs. The support device includes a support arm pivotally secured between two endcaps to allow for vertical movement, the first endcap being mounted to a support structure such as a wall or desktop, the second endcap adapted to engage a mounting element for a device such as an electronic device. A friction cylinder is pivotally attached at one end to the first endcap, and at the other to an outward portion of the support arm. The friction cylinder includes a tubular member open at one end for receiving a friction bushing and a shaft. The friction bushing is secured to the tubular member and has a central passage which allows the shaft to slide through the friction bushing, extending and retracting in relation to the tubular member.

  • Publication number: 20040251389
Abstract: A tilter assembly is provided for positioning an electronic device such as a flat panel display. The tilter assembly includes a tilter shaft holder having an opening aligned along an axis and a shaft received within the opening. The shaft is rotatable about the axis, and may be coupled to a support. The tilter shaft holder is coupled to the electronic device. The tilter assembly also includes a spring device in operative association with the shaft to provide a bias or counterbalance to the electronic device, thereby preventing undesired rotation about the axis.

  • Publication number: 20030146359
Abstract: An articulated modular mounting arm for mounting electronic peripheral devices in a statically balanced adjustable position is disclosed. This mounting arm differs from the prior art in that several of its components are constructed from lengths of stock materials that are cut down to a user specified length within preset limits. This enables the manufacture to reduce inventory of the various components because one stock component may serve the need for several length arms. In addition, molds for each of the various lengths are not required, further lowering the production costs.
