  • Patent number: 4948412
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of fusion splicing single-mode optical fibers, in which an offset distance D, between the axes of the optical fibers subjected to fusion splicing, is measured when the axes of the cores of the optical fibers are aligned with one another. The arc discharge time, current and/or energy is determined according to the measured distance D.

  • Patent number: 4878933
Abstract: A pair of V-shaped slot blocks mounted movably on a base in both the X and Y directions and a microscope for observing the opposed state of optical fibers contained on the blocks, are provided in an apparatus for fusion splicing optical fibers. The microscope is mounted movably in the X and Y directions under a base, thereby observing the opposed states of the optical fibers from below.

  • Patent number: 4850895
Abstract: A coaxial cable connection assembly includes a cable tap connector for engaging with the coaxial cable, a transceiver for transmitting and receiving information signals to and from the coaxial cable via the cable tap connector, a drop cable connector for electrically connecting the transceiver to a station device, and two matable coupling members for engaging and electrically connecting the transceiver with the cable tap connector. The tap connector has an axis along which the coaxial cable is disposed when the connector is engaged with the coaxial cable. The tap connector also has an outer face substantially parallel to the axis thereof, and includes outer and center conductor contact members for respective electrical connections with the outer and center conductors of the coaxial cable. The transceiver includes a casing having first and second intersecting faces. The drop cable connector is mounted on the first face of the transceiver.

  • Patent number: 4702548
Abstract: First and second dielectric multilayer film filters are disposed along a straight optical axis and inclined about 45.degree. with respect thereto. The second filter is rotated about the optical axis by a predetermined angle with respect to the first filter so as to divide a path of light incident upon or emitting from the first filter into a first path of light transmitting through the first and second filters, and a second path of light reflected by the first filter. The second path is orthogonal to the first path. The apparatus is used for separating or synthesizing light signals.

  • Patent number: 4680449
Abstract: A heater for heating a heat shrinkable tube fitted over an elongated member includes a base having an elongated support plate of a thermally conductive material for supporting the heat shrinkable tube on one surface thereof. The support plate has a heating portion at a central portion thereof. The heat shrinkable tube is adapted to be placed on the support plate along a length thereof with the opposite end portions of the tube disposed outwardly of the opposite ends of the heating portion, respectively. A heating element is disposed in contact with the other surface of the support portion and disposed in registry with the heating portion. The heating element is operable to first heat the heating portion and then the opposite end portions of the support portion extending outwardly from the opposite ends of the heating portion through heat transfer, so that the heat shrinkable tube is heat shrunk from its central portion toward the opposite ends thereof.
