  • Patent number: 5933965
Abstract: A tool for performing lopping, pruning and similar operations includes a housing assembly formed of a pair of telescoping tubular sections. The tool also includes a tool head, a head line and an actuating line. The tool head, which is connected to one end of a tubular section, preferably includes a spring-biased blade coupled to the head line which is connected to a slidable block. The actuating line, while engaging the slidable block so that tensioning the actuating line causes movement of the blade, is also slidable relative to the block upon relative movement of the tubular sections.

  • Patent number: 5697159
Abstract: A hand tool for cutting, such as a pair of pruners, includes a pair of opposed elongated members, each member comprising a jaw at a front end portion thereof, a handle at a rear end portion thereof, and a midportion where the members cross over each other. A pivotable joint unites the midportions for scissor-like movement of the handles and jaws, and a spring biases the handles and jaws to an open position. According to the invention, one of the handles is rotatable. A transmission mechanism is provided to interconvert the rotation force applied to the rotatable handle into a rectilinear force used to draw the handles together.

  • Patent number: 5689888
Abstract: A variable force lopping tool is provided with a gear mechanism configured so that maximum leverage is obtained at a point in the cutting stroke corresponding to the maximum resistance by the workpiece being cut. The mechanism comprises a pair of mating gears formed on first and second elongated members and cooperating with a plate having a forwardly extending jaw or blade. The plate is pivotally connected to the first member. The second member is pivotally connected to a rearwardly extending tang of the plate.

  • Patent number: 4928436
Abstract: The object of the invention relates to a device for sharpening knives, comprising a freely rotatably mounted grinding element (6) consisting of two truncated cones turned against each other. In known devices of this kind, one side of the knife blade (17) remains unground at the free end and handle end of the blade. This can be avoided, if the grinding element (6) can turn around one end (11) of its axle (10) in such a way that the axle forms an angle with respect to the sharpening direction of the knife, which angle is smaller or larger than 90.degree. in the end positions of the axle.

  • Patent number: 4723375
Abstract: A device for sharpening knives, comprising a frame and a grinding element rotatably mounted in the frame. The grinding element is provided with two cone-shaped grinding surfaces turned towards each other. The cone angle of the grinding surfaces varies in the peripheral direction of the grinding element, with at least one portion with a small cone angle having a rougher surface than the portion having a wide cone angle.

  • Patent number: 4715122
Abstract: The invention relates to a pair of scissors and a mould and a method for the manufacture of a pair of scissors. The scissors comprise two scissor blades of metal, a ceramic material or the like, and two plastic handle portions which both form a tongue positioned on the outer surface of the blade and surrounding the scissor hinge. By virtue of variation in the position of the hole of the blade, through which hole the scissor hinge goes, the points of the blades and the counter faces of the handle portions must be finished manually. This can be avoided if at least one hole has a larger diameter than the outer diameter of the hinge pin so that the bearing surfaces formed by the tongues can, if necessary, be placed eccentrically with respect to the hole of the blades.

  • Patent number: 4714159
Abstract: The invention relates to a package for scissors, which package comprises a card (1), a case (3) for the blade portion of the scissors, and means (6) for fastening the scissors to the case. In known packages, the fastening means of the scissors are relatively complicated, and the fastening must be carried out manually or by means of a special machine. The fastening of the scissors (4) to the case (3) becomes simpler if the case is provided with snap action means (6) which can engage with a head (5) of the hinge member of the scissors. In order to enable the snap action of the means, the case is formed as a substantially stiff sheath (3) which can be used as a covering for the scissor blades during the later use of the scissors.

  • Patent number: 4251916
Abstract: The invention relates a means in scissors for balancing the closing force of the scissors. It comprises a wave-shaped spring washer clamped between the head of the scissors rivet and the shear blade, at least one of the contact surfaces being wave-shaped and provided with the same number of waves as the spring washer.

  • Patent number: 4024634
Abstract: A fastening arrangement for plastics handles of scissors and equivalent in constructions in which the plastics handle is die-cast around a tang at the end of the blade-shaft. The tang has such a generally curved shape that on the outside of the blade-shaft there will be a rather thick plastics layer at the end of the tang, and, correspondingly, on the inside of the blade-shaft there will be a rather thick plastics layer at the root end of the tang.
