Patent number: 10219044Abstract: An electronic content guide may organize content such as television programs into categories and subcategories. The categories and subcategories may be topical as well as time-based. As a result, the user can select a given time-based criteria and within that time-based criteria select topical subcategories. As a result, the number of programs that may be displayed in any given graphical user interface may be reduced to a manageable level. This may be done without requiring a great deal of scrolling to view selected categories, subcategories and particular programs.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2015Date of Patent: February 26, 2019Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Oleg B. Rashkovskiy, Ben S. Wymore

Patent number: 8959449Abstract: Variables incorporated into a hypertext markup language document enable location of hypertext elements. Once the variable is located, the information contained within the identified hypertext element may be used in other applications. The information may be received, as a recognized input, by the application.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2012Date of Patent: February 17, 2015Assignee: Intel CorporationInventor: Oleg B. Rashkovskiy

Patent number: 8640161Abstract: A system includes a cache, coupled to a receiver, to store received content and advertisements. An interface in the receiver detects the occurrence of an advantageous condition during the play of content retrieved from the cache. The receiver locates one or more advertisements in the cache, and enables the display of a user interface in place of the content so long as the advantageous condition is detected. The user interface includes selectable indicia of the located advertisements and an indicia of the content. The interface is adapted to locate one or more advertisements using markers that are inserted into the content by the interface, and pointers to the one or more advertisements associated with the markers, the pointers having a stored association to the markers.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2009Date of Patent: January 28, 2014Assignee: BlackArrowInventors: Oleg B. Rashkovskiy, Thomas J. Morgan, Matthew Wong, Brian T. Duersch

Patent number: 8578405Abstract: A system includes a receiver to receive content and an advertisement. The system further includes a cache, coupled to the receiver, to store the content and the advertisement. An interface in the receiver receives an updated advertisement and updating instructions, the updating instructions to enable the receiver to replace the stored advertisement with the updated advertisement. The receiver detects a starting point of the advertisement and creates a marker and inserts it into the content to indicate said starting point, and stores the advertisement from the content to a memory storage location separate from the content, and creates and stores a pointer to the memory location. The interface detects a user-initiated pause in the viewing of content, retrieves the updated advertisement from storage, and provides a user interface that enables the user to view the retrieved advertisement for as long as the viewing of the content remains paused.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2009Date of Patent: November 5, 2013Assignee: Blackarrow, Inc.Inventors: Oleg B. Publication number: 20110265125Abstract: A programming guide for streaming video files may be automatically compiled in response to a user request. The user may provide keywords for categories of streaming video files that are of interest. A graphical user interface is automatically developed which splits responsive streaming video files into categories requested by the user. Each streaming video file may be represented in a user selected fashion. For example, the streaming videos may be represented by a representative frame, title or other information. The user can then click on any of the streaming video files, broken down into the appropriate categories, to begin viewing a streaming video file of interest.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2011Publication date: October 27, 2011Inventor: Oleg B. Rashkovskiy

Publication number: 20090304358Abstract: Content which users may wish to receive may be distributed with interrupting content such that the use of the content on the user's receiver may be interrupted and replaced with the interrupting content. The content which the user wishes to receive may be software, audio, video, graphics or other material and the interrupting content in one embodiment of the prevent invention may be advertisements. In this way, the user's receiver may be utilized to determine when it is appropriate to interrupt the interruptible content with the interrupting content. This may provide a convenient mechanism for reduced price or free distribution of a wide variety of media currently provided only in physical form or only for free without any compensation to the content provider.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 17, 2009Publication date: December 10, 2009Inventors: Oleg B. Patent number: 7383563Abstract: A system allows a user to select prompts during the viewing of video transmission on a first channel about events that may have occurred in the course of a transmission on a second channel. The user may be provided with a mechanism, such as a remote control, that allows the user to switch to the second channel after receiving the prompt on the first channel. Since the second channel is continuously recorded, the user can switch to the second channel to view a recorded portion of the transmission on the second channel up to the event on the second channel, to enable the user to decide whether to switch to view the second channel.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1999Date of Patent: June 3, 2008Assignee: Intel CorporationInventor: Oleg B. Patent number: 7337463Abstract: Heterogeneous video may be independently encoded in a processor-based system and transmitted for display on a display device. In the display device, the independent video streams may be de-packetized for display on the same display at different frame rates. Thus, each of the video sources may be displayed in a separate portion of the display at its native frame rate. For example, an electronic programming guide may be transmitted for display at one frame rate and displayed in a distinct region on the display screen while video corresponding to an ongoing television program may be displayed in another portion of the display screen at its native frame rate.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2000Date of Patent: February 26, 2008Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Scott A.
