  • Patent number: 9612126
Abstract: A novel method, apparatus, and system are disclosed that provide a mobile terminal user with up to date information regarding a point/location of interest. A user may identify a destination, and subsequently select points of interest at the destination from photos, audio or other media displayed to the user. Each media item may be geo-tagged or otherwise associated with a particular point of interest, tourist location, museum, etc. For example, when visiting Washington, D.C., the user may be shown photos of the Washington Monument, Smithsonian Museums, Lincoln Memorial, and the White House. The user may select one or more of the points of interest, and the system then generates an itinerary and/or a walking/driving/biking travel route responsive to the selected media items.

  • Patent number: 7599689
Abstract: A system and method is provided for permitting a data terminal to connect to a broadcast station web site and to receive a broadcast station broadcast in response to selection of a bookmark. Selection of the bookmark results in a tuner on the data terminal being tuned to receive a broadcast while the data terminal substantially simultaneously connects to a web site for the broadcast station. Broadcast frequency information and web site address information for the bookmark may be stored on the data terminal, or such information may be stored remotely, such as on a station id server in communication with the data terminal. The bookmark may be programmed by the user and may represent different broadcast stations according to parameters.

  • Patent number: 7575168
Abstract: Methods, devices and computer program products that provide for generating a series of visual coded images, such as barcodes that are related to a data set, displaying the series of visual coded images in sequence on a display and capturing and decoding the displayed series of visual images in one continuous process. As such the present invention provides for large volumes of data to be transferred using images of visually coded data, which are typically limited to storing and transferring a relatively small volume of data.

  • Patent number: 7516196
Abstract: A system, method and computer program for receiving real-time data from a content provider and delivering it to a user terminal while using the minimum amount of communication bandwidth possible. This real-time data may take the form of any frequently changing data such as stock prices. The user logs on the system and specifies a portfolio or stocks he is interested viewing. The user may also select active keys which are to be continuously observed. Upon receipt of the real-time data from the content provider, the system, method and computer program determine whether the real-time data has changed from the last update. If no changes have occurred to the real-time data values or the real-time data is not associated the currently active keys then there is no real-time data downloaded to the user. Only if there is a change in real-time data values associated with active currently active keys will the real-time data be transmitted to the user terminal.

  • Publication number: 20080256115
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods for identifying the end of the presentation of a content item such as a song, and/or identifying transitions from one content item to another. Content is presented via a device. A calculated fingerprint(s) representative of at least a portion of the content is transmitted. A more comprehensive content fingerprint for the content is received in response to the transmission of the calculated fingerprint. The device locally compares further calculated fingerprints to the received content fingerprint to identify an end to the presentation of the content.

  • Publication number: 20080187188
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods for enhancing media fingerprint calculations by distributing the fingerprinting task among multiple terminals. A fingerprinting task is distributed among a plurality of terminals by calculating a plurality of different fingerprints or fingerprint portions of a media stream at a plurality of terminals. A stream of fingerprints can thereby created based on the fingerprints or fingerprint portions provided by the terminals involved in the fingerprinting task distribution. Content associated with the media stream is identified using the content fingerprint. In this manner, the content can be identified and provided to the multiple terminals, while distributing the fingerprinting task among the multiple terminals.

  • Patent number: 7304585
Abstract: A device stores one or more compression rules for an action language. Upon receipt of a signal from a tag (such as an RFID tag, a visual tag, or an audio tag), a compressed data stream corresponding to the tag is decoded from the signal. Based on the one or more compression rules, one or more action parameters are derived from the compressed data stream. With these parameters, a corresponding action is performed. The action may include communicating across a wireless communications network as well as obtaining content from a remote content provider. Also the action may include storing data, such as a contact entry, or a calendar event.

  • Publication number: 20070196802
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for permitting a mobile device to provide music and related supplemental content with other users in order to enhance the music listening experience. A user may associate supplemental content with the music. The supplemental content may contain pictures or videos that are synchronized with the music. The music and supplemental content may be transmitted to other users for their viewing and listening pleasure. Feedback on the music and synchronized supplemental content may be transmitted back to the initiating entity.

  • Publication number: 20070011699
Abstract: A system for providing identification of a broadcast piece of information transmitted in a broadcast media stream by a broadcast system is provided. A reception server receives and analyzes broadcast piece of information. A recognition server connected to the reception server obtains identification data of the broadcast piece of information on the basis of the analysis. A streamer server connected to the recognition server attaches the identification data to a service transmission transmitted over a radio interface of a cellular telecommunication system and associated with the broadcast media stream, the service transmission comprising information about the content of the broadcast media stream.

  • Patent number: 7125336
Abstract: A method and system for playing a distributed game over a wireless telecommunications network is disclosed. The game is initiated when a game server sends a task (e.g., a question) to a first group of mobile terminals. Each mobile terminal may either respond to the task (e.g., submit an answer) or forward the task to another mobile terminal. Once a mobile terminal forwards the task, that mobile terminal no longer retains the task. The game ends when a mobile terminal submits a correct task response, when a global time limit ends, or when all mobile terminals have submitted incorrect responses. Responses and forwards can be sent using any known data messaging technique.

  • Patent number: 7124953
Abstract: The invention is defined by systems, methods and applications for establishing a short-range communication link between digital devices for the purpose of transferring data between the devices. The first device generates and displays a visual code that encodes the address of the first device and the location of data element desired to be transferred. A second device, which implements image capture capability, captures the visual code and decodes such to determine the address of the first device and the location of the data element. Upon decoding, the second device will automatically initiate the short-range communication link between the first and second digital devices and the transfer of the data element from the first device to the second device will ensue.

  • Publication number: 20030169306
Abstract: A screen saver is provided for an apparatus having a display screen, a storage medium, a computer application stored in the storage medium, and a screen saver program stored in the storage medium. The application has a handle that executes the application in a screen saver mode when it is selected. The handle is contained in a carousel, which includes a database containing the handles. The database also includes rules for selecting the handles and parameters associated with each handle. When a timeout period of inactivity is exceeded on the apparatus, the screen saver program is executed. The screen saver program selects the application handle from the carousel, which executes the application in the screen saver mode. While operating in the screen saver mode, the application creates images that are shown on the display screen.
