  • Patent number: 4141483
Abstract: The invention essentially resides in that polymetallic articles are fabricated by solid-state diffusion bonding process, whereby the parts of an assembly to be bonded are pressed together as pressure is applied to a high-temperature melt in which this assembly is immersed. The pressing or clamping operation is effected in an apparatus having a thermally insulated tank or container adapted to receive a melt and be sealed. The sealed container is brought in communication with a source for applying pressure to the melt. The thermally insulated tank or container may also be enclosed in a cooled, sealed housing communicating with a space defined by the housing and the container, as well as with the source for applying pressure to the melt.
