Publication number: 20230359963Abstract: A computer-implemented method for determining a cost-optimal minimum turn time of a subject vehicle at a station includes receiving historical data via a processor, including actual past turn times and available turn times of the subject vehicle at the station. The method also includes creating a two-dimensional (2D) scatter plot of the historical data from a plurality of data points, identifying an inflection point on the 2D scatter plot as a point of intersection of two straight lines, and determining the cost-optimal minimum turn time using the inflection point. A scheduling action of the subject vehicle is executed via the processor using the cost-optimal minimum turn time. A system for performing the method includes the processor, a database of the actual past turn times and available turn times, and instructions recorded in memory. Execution of the instructions causes the processor to perform the method.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 5, 2022Publication date: November 9, 2023Applicant: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Oleksandr Basanets, Dhruv R. Publication number: 20210342768Abstract: A reserve system and method for determining a quantity of forecasted reserve for a crew-grouping for a quantity of scheduled flights in a future time period is disclosed. The reserve system may comprise a controller configured to receive a crew-grouping and a quantity of scheduled flights for an aircraft in a future time period, and a historical data set associated with the crew-grouping for a previous time period. The controller is further configured to determine a quantity of forecasted reserve based on: an interquartile range of values in the historical data set for a quantity of actual used reserve of the crew-grouping per day for the aircraft; or the quantity of scheduled flights per day in the future time period and a transformed interquartile range of a plurality of data points associated with the historical data set; and to transmit the quantity of forecasted reserve to a crew rostering system.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2020Publication date: November 4, 2021Applicant: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Oleksandr Basanets, Dhruv Raj Sharma

Patent number: 11151491Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are provided for automatically identifying a shortest duration of time for an aspect of an operation. Electronic data related to instances of past operations of at least one vehicle is received. The data comprises respective available durations of time and actual durations of time for an aspect of the past operations. A candidate data set is generated by removing data related to past operations identified as isolated instances of available durations of time and actual durations of time. A mathematical function is generated that fits the candidate data set. An instance from the candidate data set with the shortest actual duration of time that is less than a threshold distance from the mathematical function is identified. The actual duration of time for the identified instance is assigned as a future duration of time for future operations of the at least one vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2017Date of Patent: October 19, 2021Assignee: THE BOEING COMPANYInventors: Oleksandr Basanets, Michael J. Patent number: 10515558Abstract: Method and apparatus for generating and outputting dynamic variance reports for vehicle operations. The dynamic variance reports enable a vehicle operations scheduler to understand trends, patterns, or the like in variances between planned vehicle operations and actual vehicle operations. The understanding of the variances provided by the dynamic variance reports enable the scheduler to apply buffers to vehicle operations plans so that planned vehicle operations more closely match actual vehicle operations and crew assignments are less likely to be disrupted.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2017Date of Patent: December 24, 2019Assignee: THE BOEING COMPANYInventors: Michael J. Publication number: 20180374019Abstract: An adaptive scheduling system is configured to adaptively schedule flights for aircraft, and includes a flight history database that stores historical data regarding one or both of the aircraft and one or more locations to and from which the aircraft travels, and a delay determination control unit in communication with the flight history database. The delay determination control unit is configured to predict one or more delays for the aircraft based on an analysis of the historical data. The delay determination control unit is further configured to generate delay data for the aircraft indicative of the delay(s). A robustness determination control unit is in communication with the delay determination control unit. The robustness determination control unit is configured to generate at least one robustness index based on the delay data. The robustness index(es) is used to adaptively schedule the flights for the aircraft.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2017Publication date: December 27, 2018Applicant: THE BOEING COMPANYInventor: Oleksandr Basanets

Publication number: 20180189746Abstract: Method and apparatus for statistically determining buffers for time variances for scheduled operations. Buffers for a particular operation can be based on a statistical analysis of past instances of the specific operation, and a buffer can be applied based on a selected statistical confidence interval. The statistical analysis can include determining a Gumbel distribution for time variances for a particular operation. Once buffers have been determined for the various operations, itineraries of operations can be prepared such that the scheduled times plus the buffer times for the operations in an itinerary do not exceed personnel limits of the personnel who may be assigned to the itineraries.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 26, 2018Publication date: July 5, 2018Inventors: Alejandro Oswaldo HERNANDEZ ROMERO, Michael J.
