  • Publication number: 20120039300
Abstract: A method for handover of a mobile node (MN) in a communications network from a previous point of attachment (p-PoA) associated with a previous mobility access gateway (pMAG) to a new point of attachment (n-PoA) associated with a new mobility access gateway (nMAG), where the pMAG and nMAG are associated with a mobility anchor (LMA), comprises the nMAG receiving a handover indicator concerning the MN from the pMAG. After receiving the handover indicator at the nMAG, the nMAG establishes a transient binding with the LMA. Following establishment of the transient binding, the nMAG receives downloaded data for the MN from the LMA prior to establishment of a connection between the MN and the n-PoA. The method may be used with PMIP Mobile Internet Protocol (PMIP).

  • Publication number: 20110182198
Abstract: A system and method for analyzing network power consumption is disclosed. The system and method for analyzing network power consumption includes the steps of specifying at least one service which will run on said network; defining a plurality of resources provisioned in the network, each having an associated power efficiency; associating a network path with the service; calculating a sum of the power efficiencies for the resources of the network path; and outputting the sum to a display device. The system and method for analyzing network power consumption is particularly useful for identifying power consumption efficiencies throughout a communication network.

  • Patent number: 7684800
Abstract: A method of triggering a decision of a wireless communication system on a handover and/or of triggering a handover by means of at least one trigger signal. Using a generic algorithm for triggering handover trigger signals. The algorithm uses generic parameters representing at least an aspect of the quality of service of a radio link. The method facilitates handovers in multi-RAT networks and decreases the signalling as part of the handover decision making is transferred to the terminal device.

  • Patent number: 7616928
Abstract: The invention relates to a Method of identifying a radio link 1,1?,1? of a terminal device 2 to a wireless communication system (3). The method comprises first step of determining values of parameters of n?2 radio links, whereby the parameters of each radio link are suitable to quantify at least an aspect of the quality of service of this radio link, the parameters (QoS parameters) being generic QoS parameters usable by different radio network technologies. In a second step a value of a metric is calculated, for each radio link, with the associated determined QoS parameters, whereby the value of the metric defines the overall quality of service of the corresponding radio link. In a third step one of the n?2 radio links (best radio link) is identified as being the radio link offering the best quality of service by comparing the n?2 values of the metric calculated in the second step.

  • Publication number: 20060286988
Abstract: The invention relates to a method by which a wireless communication 1 system provides a service, e.g. video streaming, for a mobile terminal 2 on a push & store basis. Conventional push & store services have the shortcoming that a moving mobile terminal may have a short transit time within the coverage area of a broadband access point. This means that only a short time is available for downloading desired data to the mobile terminal. It is an object of the invention to use the transit time of a mobile terminal within a coverage area of an access point more efficiently For that purpose it is suggested that the communication system 1 receives the geographical position of a point 5 of the travel route 3, predicts which of its access points 6,6?,6?,6?,6iv have a coverage area 7 which might be reached by the mobile terminal 2 and that it provides the service at this access point prior to the arrival of the mobile terminal 2.

  • Patent number: 6920266
Abstract: The construction of directional couplers according to the invention with the aid of integrated optical waveguides makes it possible to produce such directional couplers in series very compactly and relatively easily. In this connection, the integrated optical waveguides in the coupling region have a smaller cross section than the cross section outside the coupling region. Consequently, it is possible to keep the spacing of the waveguide segments in the coupling region of a directional coupler according to the invention sufficiently far away from one another to minimize the error tolerance conditions in the manufacturing process. This is particularly advantageous if the difference in the refractive indices between the core of the integrated optical waveguide and its surroundings is very large.

  • Publication number: 20050090825
Abstract: A bone plate is provided for treating a fracture, especially a fracture of an atrophic mandible, which bone plate comprises a plurality of eyelets through the holes of which screws can be screwed into the bone fragments in order to fasten the bone plate to the bone fragments so that the bone fragments on one side and on the other side of the fracture are maintained in a desired position relative to one another by means of the bone plate. The bone plate has a plate thickness in the range of from 0.5 mm to 1.
