Abstract: A printing system for printing to a recording medium can include a guide, a printer, and a cleaner. The guide can guide the recording medium and be arranged in a first vertically traveling region. The printer having a print bar with a print head can print to the recording medium. The printer can be arranged in a printing position located in the first vertically traveling region, and be displaced, to facilitate the cleaning of the print head, into a service position located in a second vertically traveling region. The cleaner can be adapted to clean the print head. The cleaner can be arranged in a printing position located in the first vertically traveling region, and be displaced into the service position located in the second vertically traveling region to clean the print head. The cleaning can be automatically or manually performed.

Abstract: In a method to clean a printer of a printing system (e.g. an inkjet printing system), at least one displaceable cleaning nozzle is arranged in a self-cleaning position, a pressure-charged cleaning agent is supplied to self-clean the cleaning nozzle, the cleaning nozzle is displaced into a spraying position for spraying the printer, and the printer is sprayed with cleaning agent. A cleaner for automatic cleaning of a printer of a printing system, as well as a corresponding printing system can perform the clean method.

Abstract: In a method for cleaning print heads that are arranged in at least one row within at least one print bar, a position of a spray nozzle can be determined, and a nozzle surface can be sprayed using the spray nozzle. The nozzle surface can be sprayed with at least one liquid cleaning jet, and can be based on the determined position of the spray nozzle. The at least one liquid cleaning jet can strike the nozzle surface at an obtuse angle of incidence. The spraying of the at least one liquid cleaning jet can be omitted if the spray nozzle is located in a gap between two adjacent print heads.
