  • Publication number: 20090083882
Abstract: The invention relates to methods of increasing the total oil content and/or the glycerol 3-phosphate content in transgenic oil crop plants which comprise at least 20% by weight of oleic acid based on the total fatty acid content, preferably in plant seeds, by expressing glycerol 3-phosphate dehydrogenases (G3PDHs) from yeasts, preferably from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The oil and/or the free fatty acids obtained in the process are advantageously added to polymers, foodstuffs, feedstuffs, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals or products with industrial applications.

  • Publication number: 20080120748
Abstract: This invention relates generally to nucleic acid sequences encoding proteins that are related to the presence of seed storage compounds in plants. More specifically, the present invention relates to KCS-like nucleic acid sequences encoding lipid metabolism proteins (LMP) and the use of these sequences in transgenic plants. In particular, the invention is directed to methods for manipulating fatty acid-related compounds and for increasing oil level and altering the fatty acid composition in plants and seeds. The invention further relates to methods of using these novel plant polypeptides to stimulate plant growth and/or to increase yield and/or composition of seed storage compounds.

  • Publication number: 20070209087
Abstract: Isolated nucleic acids and proteins associated with lipid and sugar metabolism regulation are provided. In particular, lipid metabolism proteins (LMP) and encoding nucleic acids originating from Arabidopsis thaliana, Brassica napus, and Helianthus annuus are provided. The nucleic acids and proteins are used in methods of producing transgenic plants and modulating levels of seed storage compounds. Preferably, the seed storage compounds are lipids, fatty acids, starches, or seed storage proteins.

  • Patent number: 7238856
Abstract: Isolated nucleic acids and proteins associated with lipid and sugar metabolism regulation are provided. In particular, the present invention provides lipid metabolism proteins (LMP) and encoding nucleic acids originating from Helianthus annuns. The sunflower LMP nucleic acids and proteins are used in methods of producing transgenic plants and modulating levels of total fatty acids in seeds of the transgenic plants transformed with an expression cassette designed to express the sunflower LMP.

  • Publication number: 20070022497
Abstract: The invention relates to the identification and use of a nucleic acid sequence SEQ ID NO: 1 from Euglena gracilis that when expressed will increase the total amount of oil (i.e. triacylglycerols, diacylglycerols, monoacylglycerols, phospholipids, waxesters and/or fatty acids) that is produced in transgenic organisms.

  • Publication number: 20060206961
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for increasing the oil content in plants, preferably in plant seeds, by expressing the Ypr140w polypeptide from yeast or corresponding polypeptides from plants. The invention furthermore relates to expression constructs for expressing the yeast polypeptide Ypr140w or corresponding polypeptides from plants in plants, preferably in plant seeds, the transgenic plants expressing the polypeptide and to the use of said transgenic plants for the production of food, feed, seed, pharmaceuticals or fine chemicals, in particular for the production of oils.
