  • Patent number: 8321056
Abstract: A power plant frequency response characteristic is implemented by controlling the power consumption of a CO2 capture and compression system. A power reserve is provided for under-frequency events without deloading the plant to part load, by an operating method, in which the power consumption of the CO2 capture system is used to control the net output of the plant.

  • Publication number: 20120247104
Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for providing steam to a gas recovery unit 130 based on changes to steam flow to and/or power generated by a power generation unit 119. The gas recovery unit 130 may part of a thermal power generation unit 100 and may be an amine based CO2 recovery unit including two or more regenerator columns 153.

  • Publication number: 20120122042
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for improving the dynamic behavior of a coal-fired power plant for primary and/or secondary requirements of the power grid operator with respect to the current output into the grid, wherein the power plant has a nominal output (RC) and is operated by way of firing, wherein upon an increase in the primary and/or secondary requirements of the power grid operator with respect to the current output into the grid the coal dust volume that is supplied is raised with respect to the present actual output, and wherein upon a decrease in the primary and/or secondary requirements of the power grid operator with respect to the current output into the grid the coal dust volume that is supplied is lowered with respect to the present actual output and is stored, and to an assembly for carrying out the method.

  • Publication number: 20120067046
Abstract: A power plant for the generation of electrical energy comprises steam and/or gas turbines (2, 3, 4, 13) driven by fossil fuels and a CO2 capture system (20) for capturing CO2 gases from the flue gases that result from the combustion of the fossil fuels. It furthermore comprises a CO2 gas processing unit (GPU) for the compression and cooling of the captured CO2. A cooling circuit (24) of the gas processing unit (GPU) forms a closed loop that includes a heat exchanger (25) for the heating of brine, where this heat exchanger (25) is part of a water treatment system having a multi-stage flash distiller (MSF). In the closed loop (24) low-temperature waste heat from the CO2 gas processing unit (GPU) is utilized for the water treatment system. The overall power plant energy efficiency is thereby increased.
