  • Patent number: 7212507
Abstract: A method of controlling the performance of a radio link between a base transceiver station and a radio terminal for a wireless transmission system is provided. A radio network controller (RNC) monitors a directly observable L-2 parameter, and determines a without explicit L2-L1 signaling a threshold violation by the L-1 parameter for accordingly triggering a status change of the radio link. Namely, a L-2 radio resource management algorithm prompts the radio terminal and the RNC to perform a radio resource management action whenever the L-1 parameter violates a L-1 threshold. Such an action could be directly downgrading or upgrading the transmission rate on the radio link, or a radio link reconfiguration. The L-1 parameter may be the radio block error rate r, and the L-2 parameter may be the PDU retransmission rate R.

  • Patent number: 7165203
Abstract: Frames exchanged between a control unit and a radio terminal via base stations are encapsulated, with timestamping information, in frames over an asynchronous interface between the control unit and each station. The timestamping information accompanying a data frame over the asynchronous interface indicates an instant of transmission of the said frame by each station according to a time counter specific to the radio section of the connection. The information accompanying an acknowledgement frame over the asynchronous interface indicates an instant of reception of the said frame by each station according to the said time counter. On reception of an acknowledgement frame accompanied by a timestamping information element indicating an instant of reception and indicating the non-reception by the terminal of the said data frame, the reception of the acknowledgement frame is selectively taken into account for the retransmission of the said data frame.

  • Publication number: 20040143676
Abstract: The sending unit (30) produces a sequence of blocks each comprising data to be transmitted and a header, that it sends to a receiving unit (31). The header of each block comprises an acknowledgement control field activated intermittently so as to request an acknowledgement of blocks on the part of the receiving unit. The acknowledgement control field for some blocks of the sequence is activated in accordance with a predetermined triggering mode, and the activation of the acknowledgement control field is repeated for at least one block of the sequence that was sent after a block where the acknowledgement control field has been activated in accordance with the predetermined triggering mode.

  • Patent number: 6745141
Abstract: To report the time distribution of a succession of specified events such as occurrences of particular data elements in telecommunications equipment, the method comprises an initialization of a sampling quantity consisting of a positive integer and several successive iterations of a scheme comprising the following steps: detection of a number of events equal to the sampling quantity and metering of a sampling time taken to detect said number of events; quantization of the sampling time metered in the previous step so as to output coding data representing a quantized value of the metered sampling time; and updating of the sampling quantity as a function of parameters including the quantized value of this sampling time.

  • Publication number: 20030219005
Abstract: Each radio station (2) has a receiving window associated with each frame, positioned according to a time marker inserted in the said frame by a control unit (1). The frames include data frames (5), in which the time marker is inserted for synchronization with a radio terminal (4), and signalling frames. Each radio station indicates a data frame received outside the associated receiving window, and responds to a signalling frame by returning to the control unit a synchronization parameter representing a time of arrival of the said signalling frame. In a period of transmission of successive data frames: signalling frames are transmitted to each radio station simultaneously; returned synchronization parameters are processed; and times of transmission of successive data frames are controlled according to the processed parameters.
