Preferably, the polymer provides an immuno-protective layer around the particles, while allowing therapeutic components to exit the microcapsules. Microencapsulated pharmaceutical formulations and their medical use are also disclosed, especially for the treatment of diabetes by encapsulating insulin secreting cells.
