  • Patent number: 7096299
Abstract: A control element for a mobile computer and a base station operable to functionally interact with the mobile computer, the control device being operable to detect when a mobile computer is interacting with the base station, and cause the mobile computer to perform a transition from an operating state to a sleep state. The mobile computer saves system context information when performing the transition. The control element is operable to cause the base station to perform a transition to an operating state in accordance with the system context information.

  • Patent number: 7062663
Abstract: The invention relates to power regulation of integrated circuits such as microprocessors. It suggests measuring instantaneous power consumption inside of the integrated circuit (13), by sensing state changes of the transistors of the units (14, 16, 18 20, 22) of the circuit. Based on the sensed power consumption, an instantaneous power consumption for the whole circuit may be computed and transmitted to a voltage regulator (27). The voltage regulator changes the voltage according to the computed power consumption; the regulator may thus precompensate power surges, and limit voltage transients.

  • Publication number: 20050060440
Abstract: The present invention relates to computer systems. An embodiment provides an arrangement for a computer system; the arrangement comprising at least one terminal to provide dynamic information relating to an operating characteristic of the arrangement; and circuitry, using the at least one terminal, to produce an output signal bearing the dynamic information associated with the operating characteristic of the arrangement.

  • Publication number: 20040073822
Abstract: The present invention relates to a data processing system and method having a reduced power consumption. A power context is established for each application task, process or thread running within a computer system. The power context controls the operating conditions of the processor by, for example, reducing the frequency of the processor clock or the operating voltage of the processor. A scheduler is used to switch between threads a, in horn, between power contexts associated with the threads. The switching is performed according to the conventional priority switching of threads by an operating system. However, since each tread has an associated power context, the performance of the processor, and hence the power consumption is varied on a time slot-by-time slot basis.

  • Publication number: 20030229816
Abstract: A computing system including a computing unit, such as a processor for instance, which is driven by a clocking arrangement generating at least a first clock having a first value, and a second clock having a higher frequency value which is used for an alternate clocking system. The system includes hardware detection means for analysis the number of transactions existing on the processing bus of the processor for the purpose of detecting a temporary high activity or saturation of the processing unit, and means active in response of said detection for switching the clocking of the processor to said second clock. The clock control may be used for either providing an effective power management system or also a safe overclock control of the speed of the processor. A new arrangement of a processing chip having a overclock request control lead is provided.
