  • Patent number: 5028498
Abstract: The invention refers to a fuel cell electrode for oxidation of preferably methanol in a fuel cell with acid electrolyte. The electrocatalytically active material comprises known noble metal catalysts such as mixtures of platinum and ruthenium which have been fortified with lead or lead compounds added in this connection in a large quantity so that the addition of lead or lead compounds is above a concentration around 5 mg Pb/cm.sup.2. A suitable amount is 5-10 mg Pb/cm.sup.2. Fuel cell electrodes of this kind can also be used for other fuels for instance hydrogen containing carbon monixide in acid electrolytes up to around 250.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4360378
Abstract: A new method is devised for the production of raw iron or so-called metallized iron ore. Biofuels i.e. preferably fuel wood and/or peat is in the final reduction brought into direct contact with the iron containing material in its solid state. Biofuels have very different properties compared to reduction agents on the basis of fossil fuels primarily coal and develop rapidly a reactive reduction gas at a comparatively low temperature. The new raw iron process is carried out with the iron containing material in its solid state of aggregation in different kinds of fluidized bed reactors in different system configurations.

  • Patent number: 4340013
Abstract: An improved process and apparatus for preparing a gaseous mixture of hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide to be supplied to the air/fuel mixture of a combustion engine is disclosed. The process and apparatus are useful in reducing the amount of noxious components and aldehydes in the engine exhaust gas. In one embodiment of the invention, an improved process and combustion engine are provided for reducing the noxious components and aldehydes. Recycled, water vapor-containing exhaust gas is mixed with at least one lower alcohol. Subsequently, the lower alcohol is catalytically steam reformed in the presence of the exhaust gas to form a gaseous mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, at least a portion of the water vapor and energy required for the steam reforming being provided by the exhaust gas.

  • Patent number: 4330512
Abstract: A gas flow is treated by passing the gas upwardly in a chimney. A plurality of contact elements, coated with a treating agent, are released at the top of a contact zone in the chimney for uniform free falling movement through the rising gas, so that the gas contacts the treating agent.

  • Patent number: 4316331
Abstract: Wet peat is dewatered mechanically by conditioning a peat slurry in a decanter centrifuge producing an effluent containing peat particles, and a peat sludge. The sludge thereafter is subjected to a mechanical pressing operation.

  • Patent number: 4271003
Abstract: A chemoelectric cell includes positive and negative electrodes which are spaced to define an interspace therebetween containing electrolyte fluid. At least one of the electrodes is a gas electrode. An electrochemically active substance in the gaseous state is delivered to the interspace so that the interspace serves as both a gas space and an electrolyte space.

  • Patent number: 4076909
Abstract: An accumulator battery, which may be called an alkaline lead battery, uses as negative material the typical electrode anode materials of the alkaline battery, e.g., iron, cadmium, etc., and as positive material lead dioxide or other difficultly soluble lead (IV) compounds which are formed thanks to the addition of anions like sulphate etc., to the alkaline electrolyte. During discharge the positive electrode material is reduced to lead (II) compounds containing the anion added to the electrolyte. The electrolyte has alkaline reaction during the whole cycle of charge and discharge.

  • Patent number: 3955324
Abstract: A grinding tool having a plurality of distinct abrasive particles embedded in a synthetic resin. Each of the abrasive particles has a plurality of abrading grains which are embedded in a metal phase with a metallic layer separating and binding adjacent surfaces of the grains. Each individual grain is thus kept in a metallic setting which is structurally reinforced by the other grains present in the particle with the metal phase between adjacent grain surfaces producing a certain elasticity.
