  • Patent number: 5772630
Abstract: An injection cartridge is disclosed which has provision for the after injection of a rinsing solution to wash off the medicament that is first injected. The novel cartridge has a forward compartment and a rearward compartment, each having a piston disposed rearwardly thereof. A by-pass conduit is provided at the forward end of the cartridge which is longer than the thickness of the forwardmost piston. A medicament is positioned in the forward compartment and a rinsing solution is positioned in the rearward compartment. Moving the rearward piston forward forces the rinsing solution against the forward piston which in turn forces the medicament forward and expels it from the forward compartment. After the forward piston has reached its forward stop, the forward by-pass becomes open to the rearward compartment and continued forward movement of the rearward piston causes the rinsing solution to be forced through the forward by-pass and out the outlet end of the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5545144
Abstract: A liquid preparation of a pharmaceutically active agent having a defined composation is repeatedly dosed from a multi-dose container having a defined volume. The amount dosed is selected as 1/N of the volume of the multi-dose container, N being an integer having a value of 2 or higher.A device for dosing a liquid preparation comprises a holder (1) for a multi-dose container (2), which has a movable rear wall (5) acting as a piston for expelling the liquid preparation (6) from the container, and a piston rod (7), which is provided with releasable blocking means (11, 14, 19, 22), such that the movement of the piston rod is limited to a preset length (35) corresponding to an expelled volume of 1/N of the volume of said multi-dose container, N being an integer having a value of 2 or higher.A preferred embodiment of the device is as an injection device for repeated parenteral injections from an injection cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5472422
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an injectable preparation of a pharmaceutically active agent suitable for storage in a dual-chamber injection cartridge. A dual chamber injection cartridge is provided, including: a barrel; a front chamber for a solid component; a rear chamber for a liquid component; a displaceable front piston separating the front and rear chambers; a closure sealing the front end of the barrel; and a constriction between the front and rear ends of the barrel. The constriction has a non-circular cross-section and an openable bypass connection permitting passage of liquid between the rear and front chambers. Prior to opening the bypass connection, the front piston is positioned between the constriction and the rear end of the barrel. The constriction resists displacement of the front piston in a direction of the front end of the barrel when the piston is in the vicinity of the constriction.
