  • Patent number: 5733239
Abstract: In order to free a liquid form a substance dispersed therein and having a larger density than the liquid a centrifuge rotor is used having a stack of conical separation discs. Elongated spacing members (11a, 11b) in the spaces between the separation discs are formed such that the liquid flow in the disc interspaces is conducted in a certain way. Thus, the main part of the liquid is conducted in flow paths (12a, 12b), each of which has a direction with one radial component and one component turned against the rotational direction of the rotor.

Date of Patent: March 31, 1998
    Assignee: ALFA-Laval Separation AB
Inventors: Claes Inge, Peter Franzen, Torgny Lagerstedt, Leonard Borgstrom, Claes-Goran Carlsson, Hans Moberg, Olle N.ang.bo

  • Patent number: 5709643
Abstract: Centrifugal separator comprising a rotor which inside itself forms an inlet chamber (16), a separation chamber (5) and an outlet chamber (12). The outlet chamber (12) is connected to the separation chamber (5) via a passage (13) through which a liquid separated during operation flows into the outlet chamber (12) and in the same forms a rotating liquid body with a radially inwardly directed free liquid surface (14). The outlet chamber is provided with an outlet (19), which is located radially outside the free liquid surface (14). In the outlet chamber (12) at least two wall elements (22) are arranged fixedly connected to the rotor and arranged to form a channel between themselves in order to during operation entrain the separated liquid into the rotation of the rotor and at the same time admit flow of the same radially outwardly in the outlet chamber (12).

  • Patent number: 5362292
Abstract: A centrifugal separator of the type including a rotor, which is supported by a driving shaft and which forms a separation chamber and an inlet chamber. The inlet chamber being delimited by a dividing wall. An inlet tube extends axially through the dividing wall at one axial end of the inlet chamber at which the inlet channel in the tube opens. In the inlet chamber there is arranged a number of separating discs. A central part of the inlet chamber is connected to an outside space through an evacuating channel. In order to efficiently and gently separate a supplied liquid mixture without demanding a large space in the centrifugal separator, the inlet device is provided with a baffle which, between the opening of the inlet channel and the discs, extends from the rotational axis of the rotor and delimits a liquid filled inlet space. The liquid in the inlet space flowing during operation from the inlet channel radially outwards into the liquid body.

  • Patent number: 5024648
Abstract: The present invention concerns a centrifugal separator comprising a rotor, which forms an inlet (12) for a liquid mixture, a separation chamber (5), connected to the inlet (12), for separation of components in a liquid formed mixture and a discharge chamber (10). The discharge chamber is delimited by two axially separated end walls (12, 13) and a circumferential wall (14) extending between these and has an inlet (11, 11a) connected to the separation chamber (5), an outlet in a discharge device (17) arranged in the discharge chamber (10), and means, which together with parts of the inner surfaces of the discharge chamber (10) are arranged, during operation of the rotor, to entrain into rotation a component present in the discharge chamber (10) so that this forms a rotating liquid body. This liquid body has a radially inwards directed, essentially cylindrical, free liquid surface radially inside the circumferential wall (14).
