Patent number: 11970903Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus are described herein for pre-winding a motorized roller shade. The motorized roller shade may include a roller tube, a flexible material attached to the roller tube, a motor drive unit, and mounting brackets configured to support respective ends of the roller tube. The roller tube of the roller shade may be slid to an extended position. A configuration procedure may be determined to have been initiated. The flexible material may be secured, for example, to prevent the flexible material from unrolling. The roller tube may be wound a predetermined number of rotations with the flexible material and a hembar of the roller shade secured, for example, to prevent the flexible material from being raised or lowered. Winding the roller tube may include pre-winding a spring that is coupled to the roller tube. The flexible material may be unsecured when the roller tube has been pre-wound.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2021Date of Patent: April 30, 2024Assignee: Lutron Technology Company LLCInventor: Olli T. Publication number: 20230203882Abstract: A motor drive unit may include a motor and a magnetic brake. The motor may be configured to be located within a motor drive unit housing of the motor drive unit. The motor may include a motor drive shaft defining a motor drive shaft rotational axis in a longitudinal direction. The motor drive shaft may be configured to rotate a roller tube of a motorized window treatment. The magnetic brake may include a stationary portion that includes a first plurality of magnets and a rotating portion that includes a second plurality of magnets. The first plurality of magnets may be configured to repel the second plurality of magnets such that repulsion between the first plurality of magnets and the second plurality of magnets generates a holding torque to prevent the motor drive shaft rom rotating when the motor is not driving the motor drive shaft.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 18, 2021Publication date: June 29, 2023Applicant: Lutron Technology Company LLCInventor: Olli T. Friman

Publication number: 20230203881Abstract: A motorized window treatment may include a roller tube, a flexible material attached to the roller tube, and a motor drive unit. The motor drive unit may be disposed within a cavity of the roller tube. The motor drive unit may include a motor, a gear assembly, and a shaft stabilization member. The motor may include a drive shaft extending from a drive end of the motor and a rear shaft extending from a non-drive end of the motor. The drive shaft and the rear shaft may be configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis. The gear assembly may be operatively coupled to the roller tube and the drive shaft. The shaft stabilization member may be operatively coupled to the rear shaft. The shaft stabilization member may be configured to dampen axial and/or radial forces in the motor drive unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2021Publication date: June 29, 2023Applicant: Lutron Technology Company LLCInventors: Andrew Y. Burton, Olli T. Friman, Garrett Powell

Patent number: 11480636Abstract: An arrangement and system places an external cable into a slot. The arrangement includes a slot extending from a first end to a second end. The slot includes a recess configured to receive a cable therein. The arrangement includes a movable component configured to slide along a length of the slot. The movable component includes a first end and a second end. Sliding the movable component along the slot in a first direction from the first end to the second end of the slot one of frees a first portion of the cable from the slot or places a second portion of the cable in the slot.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2015Date of Patent: October 25, 2022Assignee: Koninklijke Philips N.V.Inventors: Olli T. Friman, Tracy Wynn

Publication number: 20210367542Abstract: A motorized window treatment may be configured to adjust a position of a covering material to control the amount of daylight entering a space. The motorized window treatment may include a DC power source for charging an energy storage element, such as a supercapacitor and/or rechargeable battery. The energy storage element may be configured to provide power for the operation of a motor used to adjust the position of the covering material. The energy storage element may discharge when providing power to the motor and may charge such that the current it draws from a battery is at a desired average current level that extends the lifetime of the battery.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 21, 2021Publication date: November 25, 2021Applicant: Lutron Technology Company LLCInventors: Jason O.
