  • Publication number: 20140174542
Abstract: A disposable for use in blood treatment including a blood treatment unit and two membrane pumps connected in parallel on one side of the blood treatment unit. The disposable is operable in a single-needle mode, in which the pumps generate a pulsatile flow of blood through the blood treatment unit, and in a double-needle mode, in which the pumps generate an essentially continuous flow of blood through the blood treatment unit. The pumps connect to a supply of treatment fluid such that alternating flows of treatment fluid causes the pumps to generate the desired flows of blood in the single-needle and double-needle modes. The treatment fluid may be used as motive fluid for displacing the blood in the membrane pumps and/or as control fluid for controlling opening and/or closing of upstream and downstream commutation valves in the membrane pumps.

  • Publication number: 20130218073
Abstract: A blood access device including a fluid conduit configured to convey a flow of fluid to a target vessel, a second lever element pivotally and resiliently connected to a first lever element such that it may move from a first position to a second position. A biasing force is exerted on the second lever element for moving it from the first position to the second position, and a blocking member may be activated by the second lever element, such that a flow of fluid is decreased when the second lever element is moved from the first position to the second position. The lever elements are configured to be fixed to the target vessel when the second lever element is in the first position, and the second lever element moves to the second position and activates the blocking member if the fixation is at least partially lost.

  • Patent number: 8500676
Abstract: A device and a method for a peritoneal dialysis treatment having several cycles include a cycler controlled by a processor. The cycler fills the abdominal cavity with dialysis fluid, and drains the abdominal cavity. A sensor senses a variable related to the draining of the dialysis fluid. The draining is interrupted when the variable reaches a breakpoint at which the variable is radically changed, thereby leaving the residual volume of fluid.

  • Publication number: 20130190681
Abstract: A package has a transport/storage state for storing powdery material which is to be mixed with a solvent to form a medical solution. The package includes a compartment which is at least partially defined by two opposing wall portions, and a connector. In the transport/storage state, the compartment contains the powdery material in the form of at least two distinct sets of powdery material of different compositions, where the opposing wall portions are brought into engagement with the powdery material so as to immobilize the sets of powdery material. When used for preparation of the medical solution, a fluid is selectively admitted into the package via the connector so as to expand the compartment and enable mixing of the sets of powdery material with the solvent in the compartment.

  • Patent number: 7815809
Abstract: A method for conductivity calculation in a treatment fluid downstream a filtration unit in a blood treatment apparatus is provided. The conductivity calculation is then used for clearance and fistula flow determination. A flow of treatment fluid is created in the filtration unit; a change in the conductivity of the treatment fluid at the inlet of the filtration unit is imposed to cause an induced conductivity change in the fluid at the outlet of the filtration unit; a predetermined number of conductivity values Cdo downstream from the filtration unit are measured. The measured conductivity values define a curve the pattern of which is estimated by means of one interpolating mathematical function in an interval of time after the occurrence of the induced conductivity change; a characteristic measuring time tcalcclr is determined.
