  • Patent number: 10290233
Abstract: A system and method to integrate computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and radiotherapy data for accurate simulation of spatio-temporal flow and deformation in real human lung is presented. The method utilizes a mathematical formulation that fuses the CFD predictions of lung displacement with the corresponding radiotherapy data using the theory of Tikhonov regularization.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 13, 2016
Date of Patent: May 14, 2019
Assignees: THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA RESEARCH FOUNDATION, INC.
Inventors: Anand P. Santhanam, Olusegun Ilegbusi

  • Publication number: 20070232883
Abstract: In some embodiments, stress values for a diseased artery are obtained, stress ratios are determined from the obtained stress values, and a flow-structure interaction index is generated based upon the stress ratios as a function of a given plaque characteristic. In further embodiments, a plaque characteristic of a patient is determined, a patient's stress ratio is determined in relation to the flow-structure interaction index and the plaque characteristic, and the patient's stress ratio is compared to a critical stress ratio to determine whether the patient's stress ratio exceeds the critical stress ratio.

  • Publication number: 20070191682
Abstract: Disclosed are optical probes and methods for use of such probes. In one embodiment, an optical probe includes a housing that is sized and configured to be passed through a lumen having an inner diameter no greater than approximately 2 millimeters, and an internal optical system provided within the housing, the optical system being configured to capture images of a feature of interest associated with the lumen. In another embodiment, an optical probe includes a housing configured for passage through a narrow lumen, and an internal optical system provided within the housing that is configured to capture images of a feature of interest associated with the lumen, the optical system including axicon optics that form a focal line rather than a discrete focal point.
