  • Patent number: 10494224
Abstract: A apparatus and method for operating an electromagnetic elevator brake during a mains power disruption or emergency stop includes the steps of providing an uninterruptible power supply in a power circuit arranged in parallel to a brake coil and repeatedly opening and closing the power circuit during the mains power disruption or emergency stop. In comparison to the conventional braking during power disruption, the periodic or staggered braking provided by repeatedly opening and closing the power circuit greatly extends the time taken to bring the elevator to a halt. Accordingly, passengers will feel less discomfort when the elevator is braked automatically during power disruption.

  • Publication number: 20190300759
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring the health of an adhesive interface include the formation of an adhesive bond using an adhesive system incorporating molecular-scale magnetic markers covalently attached to polymer components, acquisition of images representing the distribution of magnetic markers within the adhesive bond at a first time and at a later time, and comparison of the images to detect displacement of the magnetic markers between the first time and the later time. The covalent link between the magnetic markers and the adhesive polymer components locks the magnetic markers in place as long as the adhesive bond remains healthy, so displacement of the magnetic markers between the first time and the later time indicates the presence of a bond defect. The images may be acquired using magnetic particle imaging and compared using digital image correlation. Chemical compositions for the magnetic markers are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10428226
Abstract: An alkoxysilane is contacted with water and an inorganic acid to form a first composition. A zirconium alkoxide is contacted with an organic acid to form a second composition. One or more alkoxysilanes and an organic acid are contacted with a mixture of the first and second compositions to form a sol-gel composition, to which a photoinitiator is added. The sol-gel composition has a ratio of a number of moles of silicon to a number of moles of zirconium (nSi/nZr) ranging from about 2 to about 10. The sol-gel composition is applied on a substrate (e.g., an aluminum alloy substrate) multiple times to form multiple sol-gel layers, and at least one of the sol-gel layers is cured by UV radiation. The multiple sol-gel layers are then thermally cured.

  • Patent number: 10421869
Abstract: A layered tetravalent metal phosphate composition (e.g., a layered zirconium phosphate composition) and a first corrosion inhibitor (e.g., cerium (III), a vanadate, a molybdate, a tungstate, a manganous, a manganate, a permanganate, an aluminate, a phosphonate, a thiazole, a triazole, and/or an imidazole) is dispersed in an aqueous solution and stirred to form a first solution. A precipitate of the first solution is collected and washed to form a first corrosion inhibiting material (CIM), which includes the first corrosion inhibitor intercalated in the layered tetravalent metal phosphate composition. The first CIM is added to a first sol-gel composition to form a first CIM-containing sol-gel composition. The first CIM-containing sol-gel composition is applied on a substrate to form a CIM-containing sol-gel layer, cured by UV radiation, and thermally cured to form a corrosion-resistant coating. One or more additional sol-gel composition may be applied on the substrate.

  • Patent number: 10419903
Abstract: Embodiments herein use a real-time closed-loop system to optimize a wireless network. The system includes a drone controlled by a self-organizing network (SON) to retrieve RF data corresponding to the wireless network. In one embodiment, the SON provides the drone with a predetermined path through the coverage area of the wireless network. As the drone traverses the path, a RF scanner mounted on the drone collects RF data. The drone transmits this data to the SON which processes the RF data to identify problems in the wireless network (e.g., cell tower interference). The SON generates one or more actions for correcting the identified problem and transmits these actions to a wireless network controller. Once the wireless network controller performs the action, the SON instructs the drone to re-traverse the portion of the path to determine if the problem has been resolved.

  • Patent number: 10361843
Abstract: A network slice manager receives a workload mobility request to add network resources to a domain in the communication network, and authenticates a virtual network function (VNF) with a blockchain authentication function (BAF) over a blockchain network interface based on the workload mobility request. The network slice manager further receives an indication of a successful authentication from the BAF, and instantiates the VNF in the domain of the communication network based on the indication of the successful authentication. Notably, these authentication processes may be readily adapted to instantiate new network resources or migrate existing network resources between domains.

  • Patent number: 10318839
Abstract: Embodiments of a method for detection of plurality of three-dimensional cephalometric landmarks in volumetric data are disclosed. In some embodiments, a three-dimensional matrix is developed by stacking of volumetric data and the bony structure is segmented through thresholding. Initially a seed point is searched for initializing the process of landmark detection. Two three-dimensional distance vectors are used to define and obtain the Volume of Interest (VOI). First 3-D distance vector helps to identify Empirical Point and consecutively second gives dimensions of the VOI. Three-dimensional contours of anatomical structure are traced in the estimated VOI. Cephalometric landmarks are identified on the boundaries of traced anatomical geometry, based on corresponding Mathematical Entities. Detected landmark can be used as a Reference Point for further detection of landmarks. Estimating the VOI and detection of points continues till all desired landmarks are detected.
