  • Patent number: 10064241
Abstract: The described implementations provide devices, systems, and methods that offload the usage of a cellular network using dynamic selection of broadband network connections such as wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) access points. A Wi-Fi transceiver on a mobile device may be activated when certain conditions (e.g., trigger events) are met. These conditions may include when, for instance, a cellular signal is dropped to 2G, weak or no cellular coverage is detected, a data use limit has been reached, an associated device is in domestic or international roaming or a particular location, and/or an associated device is in a saved private network area.

  • Publication number: 20180240127
Abstract: Systems and methods for implementing an in-store kiosk device as part of a retail reinvention and self-help care portal are disclosed. The in-store kiosk device may allow a consumer to self-diagnose problems with electronic devices, such as smart phones, and to seek technical or service related assistance with appropriate experts. The in-store kiosk device may also facilitate initiating a communication between the consumer and multiple experts, to help resolve any consumer technical or sales queries. In some examples, the in-store kiosk device has the added advantage of providing consumers with a means to have service or inventory-related issues addressed without having to wait for available in-store service staff. The in-store kiosk device may also facilitate electronic device exchange.

Abstract: A system for managing access point functionally and configuration includes a server that is coupled to a computer network and configured to communicate with an access point via the computer network. The access point is configured to couple a mobile device to the computer network by providing a wireless link between the mobile device and the access point. The access point is further configured to produce a status point regarding the access point and the server is configured to receive the status report from the access point following a trigger event at the access point. In other examples, the server is further configured to transmit a response message and/or a configuration file to the access point in response to the status report that is received at the server. Other features and systems are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20180115935
Abstract: The systems, devices, and methods discussed herein are directed to a portable communication device, or a user equipment (UE), for discovering and accessing services through a wireless local area network (WLAN) that has not previously been provisioned for the UE without having a user of the UE provide credential information. To access services through an unprovisioned WLAN, the UE sends a request to its mobile network operator (MNO), and causes the MNO to request to, and receive from, the WLAN service provider the credential information for the UE, which is used to provision both the WLAN and UE.

  • Patent number: 9801118
Abstract: A wireless local area network (WLAN) management procedure for a telecommunication device is disclosed. A WLAN management entity is operable to detect a communication event associated with a voice call, a video call, or a data transfer session, and then determine a current state of a cellular network. When the current state of the cellular network is deemed problematic, is otherwise unavailable, and/or when an alternative, higher-throughput WLAN is available, the WLAN management entity identifies available WLANs for enabling the corresponding communication. Subsequently, the WLAN management entity generates a notification, presenting an option for selecting an available WLAN, based in part on the current state of the cellular network.

  • Patent number: 9749827
Abstract: Techniques for auto-populating emergency geo-location address information are described. Instances of geo-location address information may be acquired from a variety of different sources. The instances of geo-location address information may be prioritized based at least in part on each one's respective source. A candidate geo-location address may be determined and may be used to auto-populate emergency address information.

  • Patent number: 9386405
Abstract: A computing device may be used in multiple locations. One or more networks may be available at each of the multiple locations. A profile may be created and associated with at least some of the multiple locations. The profile may specify a configuration of the computing device, such as which network to connect to at a particular location. When the computing device is located in a location that has an associated profile, the profile may be used to configure the computing device, including connecting the computing device to at least one network that is available at the location. The profile associated with the location may include information for connecting the computing device to the at least one network.

  • Publication number: 20150188843
Abstract: Access to real-time communication services associated with real-time communication addresses may be provided based on a user account. A user logging in to a user account on one computing device may be provided with access to real-time communication services associated with a real-time communication address even when that real-time communication address is a real-time communication address for another device. Once logged in, the user may receive or initiate real-time communications for that real-time communication address at the computing device. The user may also add another real-time communication address that is not specific to any device to the user account. Communications to the other real-time communication address are routed to whatever device the user is logged in to. Also, the user may download a wireless communication application to a computing device to provide access to real-time communications over a telecommunication network that might otherwise be unavailable.

  • Publication number: 20150188956
Abstract: In some implementations, a computing device may receive a user-selection to initiate a real-time communication session with a second computing device. The first computing device may authenticate user credentials. The computing device may send a request to the second computing device to initiate the real-time communication session using a web browser application. The real-time communication session may be initiated in response to receiving an acceptance message to the request. The real-time communication session may include at least one of an audio stream or a video stream.
