  • Publication number: 20230407786
Abstract: This disclosure describes a power system that includes a first compressor with an air inlet and a compressed air outlet; a nitrogen separator coupled to the compressed air outlet, the nitrogen separator comprising a nitrogen concentrate outlet and a byproduct outlet; a second compressor coupled to the nitrogen concentrate outlet, the second compressor having a high pressure outlet for supplying high pressure concentrated nitrogen to an underground storage; and a turbine generator with an inlet for high pressure concentrated nitrogen for coupling to an underground storage.

  • Publication number: 20070193406
Abstract: In accordance with certain embodiments, a modular crankshaft features a connection system between modules that features opposed female receptacles. A pin having opposed beveled ends and hydraulic passages with it is inserted into the opposed receptacles. A pair of seals is disposed on the beveled ends and straddles a hydraulic fluid outlet. The crankshaft wall that defines each receptacle is designed to flex in response to applied hydraulic pressure between the seals on the tapered pin portion. A notch at the base of the receptacle in the crankshaft reduces stress concentration and enables the wall defining the crankshaft receptacle to come back when hydraulic pressure through the pin is removed. The opposed crankshaft receptacles are flanged to allow them to be pulled together over the pin. An interference fit results around the pin after the flanges are mated and the hydraulic pressure is removed.

  • Publication number: 20070166158
Abstract: Apparatus and methods to prevent the rotation of a shaft in one direction using a device comprising a collar disposed around the shaft, a locking arm with an unlocked position and a locked position, and an actuator capable of moving the locking-arm between the unlocked and locked position. When the locking arm is in the unlocked position, the collar and shaft are allowed to rotate in a first direction. However, when the locking arm is in the locked position, the collar and shaft are prevented from rotating in a second direction. This device can also be used to prevent the reverse rotation of a rotating compressor.

  • Publication number: 20060180018
Abstract: A reciprocating compressor barrel frame comprising a continuous curved wall having an inner surface and an outer surface. A housing is formed by the inner surface of the curved wall. A pair cross head shoe supports extend from the outer surface of said curved wall in opposite directions perpendicular to said housing. A plurality of bearing support members are disposed within the housing and supported by the curved wall. The bearing support members are arranged so as to support a crankshaft disposed within the housing. A base flange is connected to the curved wall and is operable to attach to a structure that will support the frame.

  • Publication number: 20060130644
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for assembling a piston assembly that comprises a piston comprising a head end flange and a crank end flange and a rod having a head end shoulder and a crank end shoulder. The head end shoulder of the rod contacts the head end flange of the piston and the crank end shoulder of the rod contacts the crank end flange of the piston. A nut engages the rod such that the head end flange of the piston is disposed between the nut and the head end shoulder of said rod. A collar engages the piston such that the crank end shoulder of the rod is disposed between the collar and the crank end flange of the piston.

  • Publication number: 20060054850
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for controlling the flow through a compressor with a valve assembly comprising a rotating body having an outer surface. The rotating body is disposed within a valve cavity in the compressor. A non-contacting seal operates to limit the flow of fluid between the outer surface of the rotating body and the valve cavity. An aperture is disposed through the rotating body. A drive assembly rotates the rotating body such that the aperture intermittently allows fluid to bypass the non-contacting seal as the rotating body is rotated.
