  • Patent number: 6020807
Abstract: A thermostat includes a case, including an exterior, that is made of conductive material. A cover plate is made of a conductive material. The cover plate is connected to the case to define a sealed interior. The cover plate has a contact projecting into the sealed interior. The contact is fixed with respect to the case and has an interior contact position. An insulator sheet is disposed between the case and the cover plate. A blade is disposed in the sealed interior. A second end of the blade moves between a first position where it abuts the contact position of the contact and a second position where it is spaced from the interior contact position of the contact. A resistor is mounted on a first end of the blade. The resistor is disposed between the cover plate and the blade in the sealed interior of the case. The resistor has a first side facing and abutting the cover plate, and a second side facing and abutting the blade so that the resistor is electrically connected between the cover plate and the blade.

  • Patent number: 5781097
Abstract: A thermostatic switch that utilizes a snap acting bimetal blade that deforms at an actuation temperature and returns to an undeformed state at a reset temperature. Actuation and reset projections, preferably in the form of dimples, are provided to calibrate the switch. The bimetal blade has a centrally located, cupped or dish-like snap acting depression. The reset dimple is spaced below the bimetal blade between the snap acting depression and the free end of the bimetal blade instead of substantially directly below the moveable contact as in the prior art. Accordingly, the thermostatic switch may be used in relatively high voltage settings of up to approximately 600 volts without the occurrence of arcing.

  • Patent number: 5268664
Abstract: A thermostat having a cup for housing a bimetal blade. A flange extends from the top edge of the cup which receives an insulating layer and cover material on its top surface. The cover is then folded around and under the flange, simultaneously folding the insulating layer, and then crimped. The added layers of material, which previously extended beyond the depth of the cup can now be essentially equal to the extent of the cup's depth, providing substantially no additional thickness to the overall thermostat.

  • Patent number: 4978937
Abstract: A thermostatic switch has a pair of contact strips separated by an insulative separator, with the separator and strips placed within a recess in a stacking block. The separator has a central portion and laterally extending tabs at the ends thereof, and reliefs formed at each inner corner formed by the junction of the central portion with a tab, such that the edges of the stacking block do not cause a stress concentration at the inner corners, avoiding breakage and current leakage through the separator.

  • Patent number: 4710743
Abstract: A thermostatic device is provided which is formed from a cup, into which a bimetallic element is placed, and a generally flat lid which is crimped to the cup-shaped member, a layer of insulation being placed between the cup and lid. At least the ends of the lid are slightly formed to increase the pressure in these areas after crimping, so as to prevent leakage, particularly leakage of insulating materials, into the interior of the thermostatic device.

  • Patent number: 4374372
Abstract: An insulating cradle, in the form of an H, is provided for the mounting of the operative portions of a thermostatic switch. The H shaped configuration of the mounting member allows for operative portions both above and below an insulating center portion. The mounting means is so sized as to allow insertion into a metal case, with a friction fit, so as to assure proper mounting of all portions of the thermostatic switch.

  • Patent number: 4335368
Abstract: A construction is provided for a dead case thermostat which allows for the operating parts and separators of the thermostat to be held in place, within the case, without crimping of the case and with little, if any, danger of breaking of the ceramic insulators.

  • Patent number: 4039992
Abstract: A Bimetal strip, having a formed, snap-over portion is mounted within the body of a thermostat on two knife edges, each knife edge being adjacent the juncture of the formed portion with the remainder of the bimetallic strip. The combination provides for making and breaking of the circuit by the thermostat, with no creep in either direction.
