  • Patent number: 5756434
Abstract: Novel polymers comprising polyolefin-substituted amines grafted with aromatic N-containing monomers such as aniline, have been found to provide oil soluble polymers having dispersant and antioxidant properties in oleaginous compositions, including fuel and lubricating oils. The polymers of this invention are further useful in electrical applications. These materials are formed by a process which comprises: (a) contacting an amine compound having at least two reactive nitrogen moieties with at least one long chain hydrocarbon-substituted reactant in an amount and under conditions sufficient to form a N-containing polymer adduct containing reactive amine groups, and (b) contacting the N-containing polymer adduct with at least one aromatic N-containing monomer under polymerization conditions to graft said N-containing polymer adduct with aromatic N-containing polymer segments.

  • Patent number: 5741864
Abstract: The present invention provides a functionalized styrenic polymer or copolymer which contains functionalized stryene moiety having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, alkyl, primary and secondary halo alkyl groups, and R.sub.2 is: ##STR2## where n is an integer of from 2 to about 10, R.sub.3 is independently hydrogen or an alkyl group and X is NH, O or S. The novel copolymers of the present invention have particular utility in forming polymer blends. For example, the amine and alcohol functionalized polymers can be used as compatabilizers by reacting them with a carboxylic acid containing polymer or the like.

  • Patent number: 5712231
Abstract: The present invention provides novel polymers comprising a plurality of dihydroxy aromatic moieties and at least one polyalkyl moiety. In one embodiment of the present invention, the polymer is formed from about 2 to about 50 interconnected dihydroxy aromatic moieties each having an attached polyalkyl moiety. In another embodiment of the present invention, the polymer is represented by the formula A.sub.x P.sub.y where A is an aromatic dihydroxy moiety and P is a polyalkyl moiety. The polymers of the invention are useful as lubricating oil additives.
