  • Publication number: 20040053351
Abstract: A method is disclosed for determining if a patient is hypercoagulable, hypocoagulable or normal. The test involves providing a test sample from the patient and initiating coagulation in the sample in the presence of an activator, which is added to the sample in an amount which will result in intrinsic tenase-dependent fibrin. Then the formation of the intrinsic tenase-dependent fibrin polymerization is monitored over time so as to derive a time-dependent profile, with the results of the fibrin polymerization monitoring determining whether the patient is hypercoagulable, normal or hypocoagulable. The coagulation activator is added in an amount that triggers a thrombin explosion that is dependent on the propagation phase and amplification pathways. In this way, a single assay can assess the hemostatic potential of a sample.

  • Publication number: 20040050206
Abstract: The invention relates to a hydrodynamic 2-speed turbine drive, in particular, turbine drives for application in under-floor or low-floor drive systems on rail vehicles, with two hydrodynamic components for the formation of two tractive-work circuits for two different speed ranges. A first hydrodynamic component is in the form of a hydrodynamic speed/torque converter (3) and a second hydrodynamic component is in the form of a hydrodynamic clutch (4). Drive for the hydrodynamic components is achieved from the drive input shaft (11) by means of a high gear set (14). Coupling of the hydrodynamic components with the drive output shaft (12) is achieved by means of a reverse gear set (22). According to the invention, the hydrodynamic speed/torque converter (3) and the hydrodynamic clutch (4) are arranged parallel to each other and with no, or very little offset when considered in the axial direction between drive input shaft (11) and drive output shaft (12).

  • Publication number: 20040051285
Abstract: An air bag (12) is inflatable by inflation fluid. A support member (20) has a first vent opening (44) for enabling flow of inflation fluid away from the bag (12). A vent member (46) is movable relative to the first vent opening (44) between a first condition in which the vent member does not close the opening that enables flow of inflation fluid away from the bag (12) and a second condition in which the vent member at least partially blocks the flow of inflation fluid through the opening and away from the bag. A tether (50) has a first portion (52) connected for movement with the bag (12) as the bag is deployed. The tether (50) is associated with the vent member (46) and causes it to move relative to the opening (44) from the first condition to the second condition as the bag (12) is deployed.

  • Publication number: 20040051286
Abstract: An apparatus (10) includes an inflatable vehicle occupant protection device (12) and a vent opening (44) for directing flow of inflation fluid away from the protection device. A vent member (46) is movable between an open condition enabling flow of inflation fluid through the vent opening and a closed condition at least partially blocking flow of inflation fluid through the vent opening. A member (50) is operative to move the vent member (46) from the open condition to the closed condition in response to deployment of the protection device (12). Latching means (48) has a latched condition for maintaining the vent member (46) in the closed condition and an unlatched condition for preventing the vent member from remaining in the closed condition. Control means (102) is operative to actuate the latching means (48) selectively to the latched condition and the unlatched condition based on at least one sensed occupant condition.

  • Publication number: 20040050506
Abstract: Woven, knitted or otherwise manufactured decorative hanging fabric panels of synthetic or synthetic blended base yarns, the panels having integrated stiffened areas at one or more edges or in chosen internal areas made by interspersing in these areas stiffener yarns incorporating a composite mixture of low melt temperature filaments and common polymer filaments similar or identical to the base yarns. The stiffener yarns are designed to melt or plasticize at the temperature typically encountered in the tentering process for such fabrics. The stiffener yarns rigidify after cooling and bond with the base yarns to provide a controllable stiffness for the panel.

  • Publication number: 20040050497
Abstract: A label sheet assembly is provided with bar code information thereon defining the layout of the labels on the backing sheet. A versatile label dispenser apparatus advances the label sheets and deflects them over a peeling bar in one direction to partially separate the labels from the backing sheet; with the advancing action being determined by the bar code information. The label sheet assemblies are then deflected in the opposite direction, and are routed in a substantially flat condition to the output of the dispenser apparatus. The labels are partially dispensed, substantially vertically from the dispenser, and a substantial number of sensors are provided to sense when all of the labels have been removed; and then the dispenser advances the label sheet assembly to partially dispense the next row of labels. The bar code reader may also sense the leading edge of the label sheet assembly to accurately control the incremental advancing of the label sheet assembly.

  • Patent number: 6707202
Abstract: With a motor having a motor housing and a motor shaft, a sleeve of predetermined length is mounted on the motor shaft with a proximal end of the sleeve engaging against a bearing that is mounted in the motor housing and supports the shaft for rotation. The bearing and the sleeve function to simplify the construction of the motor by eliminating a retainer ring and its associated annular groove from the shaft that were previously necessary to hold the shaft and bearing in relative positions, and by eliminating an additional retainer ring and its associated annular groove from the shaft that were used as a locator to positively locate a machined surface on the motor housing relative to the shaft and to positively locate a rotating component on the end of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 6705157
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting a change of tire state may include measuring at least first and second quantities representing a tire characteristic. A new first value is then calculated by at least, in part, adding the second measured quantity to a previously calculated first value, which has been multiplied by a pre-selected parameter. A second value is then calculated by at least, in part, subtracting the previously calculated first value from the new first value. A change of tire state is indicated when the second value crosses a predetermined threshold value. In an alternative embodiment, the difference between second values for two different tires may be determined and a change of tire state is indicated when this difference crosses a predetermined threshold value.
