  • Patent number: 6816249
Abstract: The broadband brightfield/darkfield wafer inspection system provided receives broadband brightfield illumination information via a defect detector, which signals for initiation of darkfield illumination. The defect detector forms a two dimensional histogram of the defect data and a dual mode defect decision algorithm and post processor assess defects. Darkfield radiation is provided by two adjustable height laser beams which illuminate the surface of the wafer from approximately 6 to 39 degrees. Each laser is oriented at an azimuth angle 45 degrees from the orientation of the manhattan geometry on the wafer, and 90 degrees in azimuth from one another. Vertical angular adjustability is provided by modifying cylindrical lens position to compensate for angular mirror change by translating an adjustable mirror, positioning the illumination spot into the sensor field of view, rotating and subsequently moving the cylindrical lens.

  • Publication number: 20040214377
Abstract: Filled composite compositions can be used as encapsulants, underfill materials, and potting materials in electronic and optical packages that are subjected to a wide temperature range. The composites contain a matrix and a filler composition. In a preferred embodiment, the matrix is an organic material. The filler composition contains particles of a material that have a negative coefficient of thermal expansion. The filler composition contains particles having a wide range of sizes. Furthermore, the particles exhibit a non-normal, for example, log normal or power-law, particle distribution. The non-normal size distribution of the particles enables the filler composition to be formulated at high levels into organic matrices, resulting in composites that have very low coefficient of thermal expansion to match those of the semiconductor materials in the electronic package or optical components in an optical assembly.

  • Publication number: 20040208282
Abstract: A portable apparatus for sanitizing and recovering mail and other materials is disclosed. The apparatus is employed after a known or suspected biological attack or contamination event, such as anthrax. Multiple X-ray sources penetrate mail and other materials, and destroy the biological agents. The apparatus is taken to the location of the biological problem, as opposed to shipping contaminated materials to a fixed facility for recovery. Many safety and practical advantages result from this approach to bio-terrorism or to biological contamination events. The design of this apparatus leads to a self-cleaning feature. Airflow control prevents escape of toxic biological materials into the environment.

  • Publication number: 20040145598
Abstract: A system and method for determining whether a target display subsystem is compliant with a reference display subsystem is provided. A target display subsystem is selected for outputting image data. Drawing instructions are generated and applied to the target display subsystem. Image data generated by the target display subsystem, responsive to the applied drawing instructions, is periodically captured and recorded. The reference subsystem is selected, and the same drawing instructions are applied to the reference display subsystem. Image data generated by the reference display subsystem is periodically captured and recorded from the reference display subsystem. Thereafter, the captured image data from the target display subsystem and the reference display subsystem are compared to determine whether the target display subsystem is compliant with the reference display subsystem.

  • Patent number: 6768189
Abstract: A packaged die (112) for an integrated circuit (62) that eliminates the wire bonds required in the prior art, and provides integrated circuit packaging while the circuit (62) is still in a wafer format. A wafer substrate (64) on which the integrated circuits (62) have been fabricated is patterned and etched to form signal and ground vias (74, 72) through the substrate (64). A back-side ground plane (82) is deposited in contact with the ground vias (72). A protective layer (90) is formed on the top surface (76) of the substrate (64), and a protective layer (98) is formed on the bottom surface (84) of the substrate (64), where the bottom protective layer (98) fills in removed substrate material between the integrated circuits (62). Vias (106) are formed through the bottom protective layer (98), and the wafer substrate (64) is diced between the integrated circuits (62).

  • Publication number: 20040128489
Abstract: In one embodiment a thread management method identifies in a main program a set of instructions that can be dynamically activated as speculative precomputation threads. A wait/sleep operation is performed on the speculative precomputation threads between thread creation and activation, and progress of non-speculative threads is gauged through monitoring a set of global variables, allowing the speculative precomputation threads to determine its relative progress with respect to non-speculative threads.

  • Patent number: 6755524
Abstract: In some embodiments of the present invention, a method for designing one or more surfaces of an ophthalmic optical element for an eye suffering at least from higher order aberrations includes computing an eye model and optimizing a merit function. The eye model may be computed from data on defocus of the eye, astigmatism of the eye and the higher order aberrations. The merit function may be defined in terms of the eye model and in terms of parameters of a representation of the surfaces. The optimization of the merit function yields a set of optimized parameters which can be used to obtain a description of the surfaces. The ophthalmic optical element may be a lens for spectacles, a contact lens, an intraocular lens or a multifocal lens for spectacles. The method may also be used to design the topography of corneal tissue.

  • Publication number: 20040113264
Abstract: A semiconductor device, a microelectromechanical system package and a method of making the same utilize high performance vias for vertical IC packaging. A semiconductor die of the device/package has a substrate with integrated circuitry formed on a front side of the substrate. A metal bonding pad overlies the substrate on the front side of the substrate and is electrically connected to the integrated circuitry. A solder bump is located on the metal bonding pad. An electrically conductive via extends through the substrate from the metal bonding pad to a back side of the substrate where the via forms a side wall of a via hole. A plurality of the substrates are stacked on one another with the outer end of the solder bump of one substrate fitting within the via hole of an adjacent substrate. During reflow soldering, surface tension forces of the molten solder bump self-align the substrates.
