Abstract: Topical affinity badges in information retrieval is described, for example, where graphical elements are presented together with ranked search results from a search engine, to indicate a degree of association between an author of a document and a topic. In various embodiments, a measure of an author's affinity to a topic is predicted using a machine learning system that takes as input author features derived from documents of the author. In various examples topical affinity scores or labels are used to generate badges and/or to index documents at an index of a search engine. For example, badges may be presented with ranked search results, in pop up displays or in other ways. In examples author features relating to any of recency, frequency and presentation of an author's documents are generated, where presentation features may relate to biographical information such as experience, qualifications, and previous documents.

Abstract: A design and fabrication technique whereby a coping cap and/or transition can be supplied with mitered corner sections and other transitional components which utilize the identical prefinished or bare sheet metal material(s) without any reliance on exposed mechanical fasteners, welding, soldering, or post-applied paints. This is essentially accomplished by joining the prefinished sheet material(s) together using a mesh screen and adhesive on the underside (non-exposed) face of the sheet material(s).

Abstract: A compressible printing sleeve carrier for use in offset lithography which is formed from a composite fiber-reinforced compressible polymer is provided. The printing sleeve carrier is formed by coating reinforcing filaments with a compressible polymer and winding the filaments around a mandrel to form a hollow cylindrical base, where the first portion of the base adjacent the inner surface contains the wound reinforcing filaments coated with the compressible polymer and the second portion of the base adjacent the outer surface contains the compressible polymer.

Abstract: Providing network access is disclosed. Use of a provider equipment port via which network access is provided to two or more downstream nodes, each having one or more classes of network traffic associated with it, is scheduled on a per class basis, across the downstream nodes. The respective network traffic sent to each of at least a subset of the two or more downstream nodes is limited, on a per downstream node basis, to a corresponding rate determined at least in part by a capacity of a communication path associated with the downstream node.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and configured storage media are provided for flexible data mirroring. In particular, the invention provides many-to-one data mirroring, including mirroring from local servers running the same or different operating systems and/or file systems at two or more geographically dispersed locations. The invention also provides one-to-many data mirroring, mirroring with or without a dedicated private telecommunications link, and mirroring with or without a dedicated server or another server at the destination(s) to assist the remote mirroring unit(s). In addition, the invention provides flexibility by permitting the use of various combinations of one or more external storage units and/or RAID units to hold mirrored data. Spoofing, SCSI and other bus emulations, and further tools and techniques are used in various embodiments of the invention.

Abstract: An implantable cardiac rhythm management (CRM) device includes a sensing and detection circuit that senses at least one cardiac signal and detects cardiac electrical events from the sensed cardiac signal using a detection threshold that is adjusted based on a dynamic noise estimation. The sensed cardiac signal is filtered to produce a filtered cardiac signal having a signal frequency band and a noise signal having a noise frequency band. The noise frequency band is substantially different from the signal frequency band. A dynamic noise floor is produced based on the noise signal and used as the minimum value for the detection threshold. A cardiac electrical is detected when the amplitude of the filtered cardiac signal exceeds the detection threshold.

Abstract: The invention relates in one aspect to a composition, specifically a jelly, the use of which composition as an auxiliary means is to ease the taking of oral medication in solid form, which composition comprises iota-carrageenan as a jellifying agent and citric acid as a salivating agent, characterized in that the composition further comprises maltodextrin. In another aspect, the composition comprises a calcium sequestrant for adjusting Ca-ion activity of the composition. In one embodiment, the composition comprises iota-carrageenan in 0.7-1.0% in mass, citric acid in 0.06-0.07% in mass, maltodextrin in 1.5% in mass, all relative to the total mass of the composition, and an amount of a calcium sequestrant such that the Ca-ion activity of the composition is between 20 ppm and 80 ppm.

Abstract: Systems and methods may provide for receiving a short range signal from a sensor that is collocated with a short range display and using the short range signal to detect a user interaction. Additionally, a display response may be controlled with respect to a long range display based on the user interaction. in one example, the user interaction includes one or more of an eye gaze, a hand gesture, a face gesture, a head position or a voice command, that indicates one or more of a switch between the short range display and the long range display, a drag and drop operation, a highlight operation, a click operation or a typing operation.

Abstract: Various systems and methods for navigating paginated items results are described herein. A web browser receives, from a server, a markup language document including a subset of a plurality of item listings. The web browser detects a paging tag in the markup language document tags that identifies attributes identifying a current page number of the plurality of item listings, a total page count of the plurality of item listings, and a number of item listings on the current page. Pagination navigation information is updated in accordance with the attributes in the paging tag. The page markup language document with the subset of the plurality of item listings may be displayed.

Abstract: The claimed subject matter is directed to the use of an application reputation service to assist users with minimizing their computerized machines' exposure to and infection from malware. Specifically, the claimed subject matter provides a method and system of an application reputation service that contains the reputations for elements that are known to be non-malicious as well as those known to be malicious. One embodiment of the claimed subject matter is implemented as a method to determine the reputation of an element (e.g., an application). When a user attempts to install or execute a new application, the Application Reputation Service is queried by the user's machine with a set of identities for the element. The Application Reputation Service determines the reputation of the application by referencing a knowledge base of known reputations and returns an indication (e.g., an overall rating, or a flag) of how safe that application would be to install and run on the user's computer.

Abstract: A controller for operably coupling a drive unit to a host unit in a serial advanced technology attachment (SATA) system is described. Abstract: Embodiments of a method are provided that may be carried out by an avionics display system deployed on an aircraft and including a monitor. The avionics display system receives position data indicative of the aircraft's detected position from at least one data source. In one embodiment, the method includes the steps of: (i) attributing an error characteristic to the data source, (ii) identifying an airspace assigned to the aircraft at a given time, and (iii) establishing an error-compensated airspace as a function of the error characteristic and the assigned airspace. The aircraft's actual position remains within the assigned airspace provided that the aircraft's detected position resides within the error-compensated airspace. A visual representation of the outer boundaries of the error-compensated airspace is generated on the monitor.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses to facilitate searches of communication references for real time communication connections. One embodiment includes: one or more web servers to assign a communication reference to an advisor for distribution by the advisor in one or more documents, to associate at least one keyword with the communication reference, to receive from the advisor a bid price on the keyword associated with the communication reference, and to present the communication reference selected based at least in part on the bid price in response to a search related to the keyword; a session border controller to interface with a packet switched network; and one or more telecommunication servers to determine contact information of the advisor based on the communication reference used by a customer to request a communication connection to the advisor, and to connect the customer to the advisor for real time communications using the determined contact information.

Abstract: Compositions and methods for treating disordered tissues, such as caused by pathogens and/or by toxins. The treatment compositions include an anti-infective active agent, a liquid carrier, and benzocaine in an amount so that the treatment composition penetrates more quickly into disordered tissue compared to the treatment composition in the absence of the benzocaine. In addition, the benzocaine can increase residence time of the anti-infective active in the treatment area. The preferred anti-infective active agent can be an organohalide, such as a quaternary ammonium halide compound, an example of which is benzalkonium chloride. The treatment compositions and methods may employ the use of an applicator adapted for use in promoting penetration of the treatment composition and/or agitation of the disordered tissue to further enhance penetration.

Abstract: A measurement apparatus is disclosed. The measurement apparatus includes a lid configured to be removably affixed to a microcircuit case. One or more penetrations through the lid allow insertion of a signal-conducting probe. The probe is removably affixed to the lid at the site of the penetration. The probe includes a central conductive pin. The central conductive pin transmits to a connection outside the case a radio-frequency signal inductively received from a source inside the case. The probe also includes a dielectric region radially surrounding a portion of the central conductive pin, and a grounded outer conductive housing radially surrounding the dielectric region and electrically isolated from the central conductive pin by the dielectric region.
