Patent number: 5930987Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for picking or harvesting agricultural products from plants on which they were grown. The apparatus is especially useful for harvesting peppers of various types (e.g., chili, bell, etc.). The apparatus includes fingers carried on elongated opposing bars which are inclined relative to the ground and are moved through a circular path such that opposing fingers engage and lift the products and separate them from the plants. A trash removal system removes plant stems, leaves and debris. Preferably a hopper is included for receiving and carrying the harvested products until the operator desires to transfer the products to a truck or other carrier. The apparatus is very efficient in harvesting agricultural products and does not crush or damage fragile products or the plants on which the products are grown.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1997Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Assignee: Multi-Picker International, Inc.Inventors: Oren D. Urich, Daryl W. Urich

Patent number: 5082188Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for reducing the particle size of various materials (e.g., grains, forage materials, fibrous materials, bulk materials, disposed materials, etc.). The apparatus includes a housing including a circular interior wall, a rotor member which is rotatably mounted in the housing, a plurality of blades or hammers attached at one end to the periphery of the rotor, drive means for driving the rotor within the housing, and feed means for feeding the material to the rotor in substantially full face feed. An annular channel or chamber is defined between the rotor and the interior wall of the housing. The blade members extend into the channel or chamber. After the material has been reduced in particle size by the blades or hammers it passes into a cavity adjacent to the annular channel or chamber and the rotor. The cavity includes an unrestricted discharge opening for exit of the processed material.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1988Date of Patent: January 21, 1992Assignee: Sterling Grinding Company, Inc.Inventor: Oren D. Patent number: 5009062Abstract: Apparatus is described for forming fibrous bulk material or the like into a baled unit and binding it. The apparatus includes: (a) a rotatable auger, (b) a tubular housing surrounding the auger, (c) feeding mechanism for feeding bulk material to the housing, (d) a die adjacent the tubular housing, (e) a packing chamber adjacent the die, and (f) binding or tying mechanism to bind the baled unit without cessation of rotation of the auger.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 1989Date of Patent: April 23, 1991Assignee: Colorado National Manufacturers, Inc.Inventors: Oren D. Urich, Vernie G. Meyer

Patent number: 4773601Abstract: A mini-sized hammer mill apparatus is adaptable for both rotatable tub feeding of hay, fodder, feed grains, and the like, as well as for chute feeding of wood and debris for comminution. A number of features optimize the mini size for effective, reliable, and smooth operation by small horsepower tractors, including: side feed tangentially out of a cylindrical hopper under a rotatable tub into the periphery of a large diameter, narrow rotor, or through a chute with tensioned roller feeder; radially adjustable grinding and metering finger/grate bar combination, secondary grinding fingers and breaker bar, self-sharpening hook-like pointed hammers, rotatable tub mounting structure, and enhanced energy dissipating, down-sized cyclone with reverse-louvered pressure dissipators.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1986Date of Patent: September 27, 1988Assignee: S.B.O., Inc.Inventors: Oren D. Urich, Ralph T. O'Donnell, Roy D. Cash

Patent number: 4729435Abstract: An agricultural tilling implement is described which is adapted to be connected to the rear of a tractor having a three-point hitch. The implement comprises an elongated tool bar which preferably has two attachments thereon, spaced from each other, for connection to the three-point hitch of the tractor. A plurality of tilling units are carried by the tool bar. Each tilling unit comprises a downwardly depending ripper member and two rotatable wheels adjacent the ripper member. The wheels are vertically adjustable and, preferably, are also adjustable inwardly and outwardly as well as forwardly and rearwardly. The wheels are adaptable to hold the soil firmly in the rows so that the ripper member does not disturb or injure the roots of growing row crops. Preferably the tilling units are also adapted to tow a secondary tiller unit.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1986Date of Patent: March 8, 1988Assignee: Krause Plow CorporationInventor: Oren D. Urich

Patent number: 4408551Abstract: A row planter having an improved opening means preferably used in combination with a furrow forming shoe. The opening means includes an unitary, disc means mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis and the shoe is mounted so that a peripheral portion thereof overlaps and substantially abuts a peripheral portion of the disc means. The overlapping peripheral portion of the shoe serves to clean the peripheral portion of the disc means and will continue to do so even as the disc means wears down and its diameter begins to diminish. In the preferred embodiment, the overlapping peripheral portion of the shoe is proportioned and mounted so that its profile when viewed from ahead of the row planter falls within the profile of the disc means. In this manner, there is a smooth transition between the furrow opening disc means and the furrow forming shoe. Outwardly of the disc means are positioned depth gauge wheels which are eccentrically mounted relative to the horizontal axis of the disc means.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1981Date of Patent: October 11, 1983Assignee: Heath Farm EquipmentInventors: Phillip D.
