  • Patent number: 9283337
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for entraining in an airflow a medicament powder contained in a cavity having a cavity opening. Large airflow vortices are provided, for instance, by use of an obstacle in a flow passage, The airflow with large vortices is arranged to by-pass the cavity opening, thereby generating an eddy in the cavity which contributes to entraining the powder in said airflow. The present disclosure also relates to a medical dispenser, for instance an inhaler, in which the method may be performed.

  • Patent number: 9211383
Abstract: A device for inhalation of at least one air stream carrying a dose of medicament powder having a powder-containing cavity which opens into a flow passage. The flow passage is arranged to direct an inhalation air flow across the cavity opening. A circulating flow is thereby induced in the cavity by the phenomenon of shear driven cavity flow. Powder is entrained in the circulating flow and deaggregated before exiting the cavity and becoming entrained in the flow of air along the flow passage.

  • Patent number: 9174011
Abstract: An inhaler which comprises a base having a plurality of consecutive sealed cavities containing medicament. Foil portions are on one side attached to the base for sealing the medicament within respective associated cavities. A plurality of separating elements are attached to the other side of the foil portions, each separating element being associated with a respective cavity for separating a foil portion from that cavity. Each separating element can be moved-away from its associated cavity so that the sealing foil portion is separated from the cavity which is thereby uncovered so that medicament contained therein is enabled to become entrained in a fluid flow, and then returned with the attached foil portion to cover its associated cavity. A method of operating an inhaler is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9095670
Abstract: An inhaler, including a base having at least one air-tight, foil-sealed cavity containing medicament is disclosed. An actuator is engagable with a separating element attached to the foil, the actuator having an energized position in which it is biased towards an unloaded position so as to cause the separating element and attached foil to be moved away from the cavity. A latch has a first position, in which it latches the actuator in said energized position, wherein the latch is at least partly arranged in a flow path such that an inhalation flow through the flow path affects the latch to move from the first position to the second position. A method of dispensing a medicament from a sealed cavity inside an inhaler is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20140083422
Abstract: A dry powder inhaler comprises a disc-shaped assembly (14) having cavities (16) filled with medicament powder for inhalation. The assembly is rotatably mounted in a housing (6, 8) on which is mounted a rotatable external casing (11, 12). A mouthpiece (10) is movably mounted on the housing (6, 8) allowing it to be brought into and out of engagement with the edge of the disc (14) whereby the mouthpiece acts as a brake to prevent or permit rotational movement of the disc (14). The inhaler is opened by rotating the housing with respect to the casing (11, 12) to expose the mouthpiece (10). As the inhaler is opened and closed, cam followers (105) on the mouthpiece move along cam tracks (109) in the casing (11, 12), causing the mouthpiece to move against or away from the disc (14). A gap is defined between the disc and mouthpiece to allow a flow of bypass air to enter the mouthpiece.
